Cleland Won't Seek Rematch Against Chambliss

On the one hand, it's unfortunate, because a lot of people would have rooted for him to beat Saxby Chambliss, who ran a horrible ad against Cleland in 2002.

On the other hand, it leaves Cleland available to be a veep candidate in 2008.

1. I'm not optimistic about winning that seat
I like our chances better in Mississippi if Cochran retires, or even in Alabama against Sessions.

5. I think people are getting right tired of Jeffie...and a whole mess of good real
Democratic candidates to choose from...if the state party would get its head out of its butt...and a little money flow southward from DC, instead of just writing off the South. That is not how elections are won: by not even condescending to an election-time visit...

2. Cleland was robbed bigtime. There was something like a
13% divergence of exit polling--actual vote count.

4. It's just as well
It would be a pity for such a good, honorable man to once again go through a smear campaign followed by election theft, especially versus a right-wing pansy like Chambliss, who isn't fit to shine Max's shoes.
