GOP trying to give themselves a raise today before leaving

http://www.cnn.com/POLITICS/blogs/politicalticker/2006/12/dem-leaders-hope-to-block.html

Dem leaders hope to block Congressional pay raise

Members of Congress are in line for a $3,300 pay raise effective Jan. 1 unless they block it, and Democrats said Thursday they intend to try.

Officials said Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California and Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, the party's leaders, had notified Republicans they will try to add the anti-pay-raise provision to a bill that provides funds for most government agencies through Feb. 15. Congress must pass the funding bill before it adjourns for the year, and the target for that is Friday.

Under federal law, lawmakers, like many federal employees, receive a cost of living increase on each Jan. 1. The increase for 2007 is pegged at 2 percent, and would put the salary for rank-and-file lawmakers at $168,500.

1. I have an idea- why don't they all donate those raises to Katrina victims?
Won't be all that much compared to the MILLIONS that have disappeared, but perhaps some families who STILL have close to nothing who lost everything, could have some holiday cheer. Just a thought.

2. How about a "time of war" temporary pay cut?
Yea, like that'll happen.

3. greedy bastards. after they blocked raising the min wage again. still.
i hate republicans.

their idea of the free market is the one that got them in the position of power so they could take more for themselves,
and if the poor people want money let them pull themselves up by their rotten bootstraps and take it.

6. Block it and then dock everyone
For only working 109 days (I think that's the right number) this year. That would send a powerful message.
