ROCKFORD — A Rockford man was arrested and charged with allegedly plotting to explode several grenades in garbage cans at a shopping mall in Rockford, federal authorities said today.

The feds arrested Derrick Shareef, 22, on Wednesday without incident when he met an undercover agent at a store parking lot in Rockford to trade a set of stereo speakers for four hand grenades and a hand gun, the feds said.

He was charged with one count of attempting to damage or destroy a building by fire or explosion and one count of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction in a complaint filed today in U.S. District Court in Chicago.

Funny, they don't consider fully automatic assault rifles to be WMDs.

What is a wmd anyway? Didn't it used to mean nukes, nerve gas and such? Now it applies to any thing that can kill more than one person at a time? Hey, I guess there really were wmds in Iraq afterall - Saddam had plenty of grenades, I bet.

. . . other than they didn't list this wacko's motive, did hand grenades just get classified as a weapon of mass destruction? I thought that was stuff like nukes, chemical and biological weapons.
