Former VA Governor Gilmore will explore run for Presidency...

Former Virginia governor James S. Gilmore III has decided to form a committee to examine running for president in 2008, casting himself as a fiscal conservative with executive experience and national security credentials.

In an interview yesterday, Gilmore said his candidacy would fill a void among Republican presidential hopefuls, who he believes are not dedicated enough to important conservative principles.

1. HAHAHAHA Oh stop it you are too funny
Oh man GILMORE?!?!? Aside from being only second to Bill O'Reilly in Frank Burns look-a-likes he has a wonderful history of one line campaigns (No car tax), complete incompetence on the job, and infidelity that makes Guiliani look normal.

Gilmore was seen openly with his mistress and his wife split and lived in family friend Patricia Cornwell's house for a while.

2. Isn't Patricia Cornwell one of those Godless lesbians?
yeah, and I'm still waiting for my car tax to disappear.

That was one of the most disingenuous campaigns ever run imo. I'm sure his campaign slogan will be "no new taxes". :eyes:

4. Consider yourself very lucky...
we had the misfortune of having him as our Governor here in Virginia, and he completed George Allen's trashing of our budget. Dreadful is a pretty good description of him actually.

7. Gilmore created the mess Mark Warner had to clean up...
He ran for Governor on one issue...the car tax. Here in Virginia we have to pay personal property tax on our cars every year. Technically this is a local tax, but State funding levels are dependent on it. It is quite unpopular, so Gilmore ran on the promise of eliminating it. Of course he never said where localities would get the revenue to replace it.

Gilmore got some reductions to the tax, but never succeeded in eliminating it. He threw the state into a fiscal mess, never made up completely for the revenue lost to localities, and they were forced to raise other taxes...property taxes which are just as unpopular

Warner cleaned up the mess and became the most popular politician in the state. One could say Gilmore paved the way for Warner, Kaine and Webb to get a hearing. And now, we have a legitimate shot at regaining a majority in the legislature next year...

And this doofus wants to be President!!!

It really is laughable!
