"I just don't think we should go hellfire damnation around the globe freeing people,"
So said Gerald Ford in an interview with Bob Woodward.
His main point was that the first question we should ask is, "Is it in our national interest?" He thought the invasion of Iraq a big mistake. Democrats are not alone in criticizing Bush and Cheney and the neocons. After death, a Republican has agreed to criticize another Republican.
Why wasn't he leading the conservative charge against going to war? As the only living former GOP president, I'm sure that would have carried a little bit of weight.
Damn shame you couldn't speak out when you were alive; but you knew even in your dotage that your party had degenerated into a pack of savages that would turn on its own for betraying the slightest trace of doubt.
Thanks for the legacy, Mr. Ford. Your leniency towards an elite criminal made sure that his henchmen would retain credibility to come back for another crack at ruining our nation. Say "hi" to Mr. Quisling when you reach your final destination, would you?
4. Well...people are just gonna have ta die first...
so ironic, Jerry also stated Kissinger was 'thin-skinned'. Yeah...megelomanics are it comes to their own hides...BTW 15 soldiers names listed as KIA in Iraq in TODAY's Washington Post...avg age looks to be 20-21 or so...But that wont stop B**h from escalating his death march...why do we feel powerless in the face of this idiocy? Just pathetic...
There really has to be an organization within the GOP that dictates what the GOP says as a whole. Ford was only ready to disagree in public with Bush after his death. That means the man felt it was okay to allow thousands of American troops & probably 100's of thousands of Iraqi's die & not say a word until he was dead.
6. How incredibly pre 9/11 was Ford's thought process.
But, gosh, don't I long for a return to national sanity and a rejection of police state tactics and disproportionate fear that this regime promotes to the significant detriment to the American psyche.
