I do not know enough about this. I feel like WE executed him, but it is being handled as if we are just bystanders while Iraq does its thing. It is being mentioned that Iraqi law says that a person has 30 days after being convicted and sentenced to death and that's it. Can somebody give me some solid idea of how much this was us and how much this was them? Or even how much of a 'them' there is??

U.S. court rejects bid to stop Saddam execution
30 Dec 2006 02:27:40 GMT
Source: Reuters

WASHINGTON, Dec 29 (Reuters) - A U.S. judge denied on Friday a move by lawyers to delay the execution of ousted Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, who faces hanging within hours.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly said Saddam was not being held in U.S. custody and as a result her court lacked jurisdiction.

Lawyers for Saddam earlier on Friday had asked the court to order a halt to his execution.

In a last-minute filing to the U.S. District Court of Washington, Hussein's lawyers asked for a temporary stay of execution because Saddam is a defendant in a civil case in the same court and he has been prevented from being able to defend himself. (Additional reporting by Jim Wolf in Washington)

5. Thanks
How much do we believe that 'jurisdiction' thing?

See, I have a hard time seeing the Iraq government as anything other than some kind of Middle Eastern branch of BushCo. It makes me really suspicious of things I hear about the Iraqi government 'independently' deciding to do.

6. Iraq's government is a puppet of US, like Vichy France was of Germany
Case in point, whenever we want to bomb a city, we never ask for permission from the supposedly sovereign Iraqi government. When the British destroyed a police station in Basra, they didn't ask for permission either.

Saddam was sentenced to death just before the November elections. Coincidence, or a Rovian PR ploy?

8. 100% engineered by BushCo.
there was NO 'them', not even a bit. of course, the ONLY thing we'll be hearing now is that 'iraqi's executed saddam', a rousing chorus.

12. They executed him on a Sunni high holiday, the Shia high holiday is tomorrow
It is against the Iraqi law, apparently, to execute someone on a high holiday. The US and the Shia just gave a big FU to the Sunni and declared the Shia calendar law.

Now Bush will need that troop 'surge'

13. Geniva conventions say that it is illegal to turn over a POW
to someone who is going to kill them.

Not that the rule of law matters to the Bush Administration.
