GOP: SOS!!!
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 08:54 PM by NanceGreggs
GOP: SOS!!!
By Nancy Greggs

Oh.My.God. They’re doing it! The Democrats are already ruining years of your hard work – and who will stop them?

They haven’t even seized power yet, and they’re already replacing your already exhausting three-day workweek with five. (Sure, respect for other families, but no regard for yours!)

Now they’re talking about ethical behavior by government officials, i.e. no more extra cash on the side for hardworking senators and congressmen who are struggling to get by on one paycheck, when the populace has the option of holding down two or three jobs.

Investigations? Hearings? Good God, save us from this madness. How many semi-corrupt GOP statesmen will be ruined over a little intelligence manipulation here, a little lying about WMDs there? It boggles the mind.

As you are undoubtedly aware, these shameless Democrats are already blatantly pandering to a special interest group called American Citizens, (or whatever name the great unwashed are going by these days). Raising the minimum wage, access to lower-priced prescription drugs – did anyone actually ask for these things? Could it be any more apparent that these people will do anything to satisfy the needs and wants of the riff-raff?

Good grief, what next? The wealthy paying their fair share of taxes; corporations having to pay any taxes at all? Next thing you know, they’ll start talking about paying down the deficit and curtailing spending on vital needs like Bridges to Nowhere.

And what will become of the War on Terror? How will we, as a country, be able to fight our enemies if the Liberals don’t allow us to provoke them into hating us? Where will our next 9-11 come from if these peaceniks start pushing their scatterbrained ideas of diplomacy and international cooperation?

Have you even considered the consequences of their impact on social programs and education? Do you really want the poor, the hungry and the homeless being looked after, things that will destroy our Christian-based society? Let whack-jobs like Ted Kennedy have their way and before you know it, the stork theory will be summarily removed from our children’s sex-ed classes, and our kids will be exposed to things like math and science. Jesus wept.

Will they plunge the country back into the dark ages of the Geneva Conventions, the rule of law, the Constitution? Will they put an end to our God-given right to torture? Will they force us to convert to their godless ideals of stewardship of the planet, and humane treatment of others? It seems too horrible to imagine, and yet we must face the grave and gathering threat they pose.

I realize that as the minority, your voices will not be readily heard nor your ideas given much weight – unlike the bipartisan cooperation you were noted for when in the majority. But it is imperative that you act now and save our nation from imminent doom.

The writing is on the wall. Along with things like transparent government, fiscal responsibility, and all of their other anti-American notions, these Lefties could even go so far as instituting a fair election process – in which case, your chances of ever regaining power again will be but a fond memory of yesteryear, along with warrantless wiretapping, secret back-room deals with energy companies, and no-bid contracts to fine US corporations like Halliburton.

While I hesitate to even broach the topic, it would seem that a Democrat in the White House in 2008 is now sadly all-too-likely – some would even say inevitable.

And where will we be as a nation then? It would be the final nail in the coffin of the country you have so carefully crafted over the last few years – no more war in Iraq, no more spewing of hatred, no more distancing of our traditional allies. It could spell the return of prosperity to our citizenry, and increased understanding and cooperation amongst ourselves and our global neighbors. We could again be looked down upon as the Land of the Free, a Beacon of Democracy.

The consequences could be even more dire: Peace could start breaking out all over the world.

I'll sleep a little easier tonight, knowing this imminent disaster will be stopped in its tracks by the OxyMoron and the leader of the War on Christmas.

I only hope it's not too late ...

12. Thanks for this post, Nance
I'm relieved to know that someone is paying attention to what will happen under a Democratic Congress. They will probably investigate such God-given rights as torture, and preemptive warfare, things that everybody knows are the right of G.W. Bush and his administration.

They will demand transparency in government, not realizing that Bush knows best, and is only trying to spare us the HARD WORK of implementing humane, and just government. One of the scariest things to think about, is the reversal of the transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the rich. Fairness in taxes? Consider the children. Why should the children of the wealthy be saddled with the crushing debt that should be the lot of the rest of us?

Nance, your rants are always a thing of beauty. Thank you again!

43. yes it would be really nice if the media would explain the facts
regarding these statements by rethugs and what the rules where under their oversite. Someone needs to explain how the minority under the rethugs was silenced. If they don't want to play by their own rules they should go home and let us get to work.

19. Excellent post, concise summary of the wrongs of 107, 108, and 109
I can only hope that those in 110 do not lose sight of the promises they all made during their campaigns and adopt the model of the Republicans permanently. I'm excited about the 100-hour agenda, but I'm worried by the shut-out-the-opposition tactics. That's just another example of us lowering ourselves onto the level of our enemies (gee, doesn't that sound familiar?).

Quite ironic that an agenda so filled with good ideas is, at least temporarily, being tied to such a backward legislative model. Perhaps I'm too cynical, but that taints my hope for the future.

44. Excuse my abhorrence of double standards
I know that American politics are and always have been based on the notion that we can do whatever we want, but the other guys have to follow the rules (much like our foreign policy), but that bothers me. I guess my mind has been tainted by Chomsky and his radical philosophy of universalism.

What the Democrats are doing right now is what every former minority has done upon assuming legislative power, despite the pious insistence during the campaign that things will change. I don't have any reason to suspect that this gang of Dems is any more sincere than all the previous bodies of legislators in Congress's history.

What I have learned in my short time observing politics is that certain principles of government are important and that partisanship is a farce. There is little to be gained if we as liberals accept the corrupt practices of the Republicans as soon as they become the corrupt practices of the Democrats. Granted I cannot size you up based on a single post, Tank, but from what I have seen, I think you're more in line with "Hassert" than I am, if you condone his unscrupulous tactics as long as the perpetrator has a "D" next to his or her name.

I am upset that the the Democrats are going to return the abusive treatment the Republicans gave them, just as I am upset that the Shiites in Iraq are visiting the same abuse on the Sunnis they received under Saddam.

I joined DU because I like participating in the discussions, and I like a lot of the other people who post here. I don't have the time to sit at my computer senselessly flaming people; I enjoy reading the various stances people take on the issues that matter to me, and this site is a good source for stories neglected by the MSM. Thanks for making me feel unwelcome, though.

42. I've been reading here for a couple years...
...but only just started posting here tonight.

I read lots of Blogs/news sites and post quite a bit
on AmericaBlog, Atrios, Gilliard and others.

I love to read anything that knocks the lies, hypocrisy, evil,
and inherent dishonesty of the American rightwing.

God help me, but I simply despise Conservatism.

To me, Conservatism isn't a philosophy--It is just a strategy
that simply enables and facilitates fascism.
This has become very clear to me over the last 6 years.

In any case, I'll be back!
