The Democrats are the masculine party
Looking at the income levels of the electorate, it is clear the main divide is by class - those "making" over $200k are overwhelmingly Republican, those making very little are overwhelmingly Democrat. From polls, $50k seem to be around where the dividing line is.

Now the Republicans could never get elected without some of that <$50k vote. Who is it? Primarily rural, religious white males. When I think of these men, I think of them as men on their knees. They are on their knees to their bosses through the week, and then they go to church on Sunday and get on their knees to two pieces of wood nailed on the wall. They are obsessed with masculinity, although I can think of nothing less masculine then taking orders from a boss, everything else seems to be some kind of cover up for the fact that they are bowing down to another man all week.

2. Hm, is being on one's knees "feminine?"
I had to ask.

I don't get how this relates to "masculine." Maybe it's about courage or independence or something that goes beyond gender?

22. Consensus Building is what the Democratic Party is gifted at ...
Edited on Mon Jan-08-07 09:13 AM by ShortnFiery
That's a traditionally feminine trait ... and a good thing.

Our whole country has been hijacked since the Regan Era by Machismo acting bullies who preach to the people that discussion and compromise is "girlie" and not for AMERICA.

Enough! Androgynous traits (clear positions along with consensus building discussions) are the best tools toward effective compromise within a decision making process.

BTW courage and independence are no longer the exclusive domain of The Masculine. ;)

25. Hi, ShortnFiery!
I agree!

I think the OP was trying to describe courage, independence, self-determination, integrity, things like that. Equating that with "masculinity" doesn't make sense to me.

26. Hi Sparkly.
Having two older brothers who always told me that I would not amount to anything, I've pushed the envelop of attempting to do those things that women should not, i.e., construction work with my Dad's company, Military Service, etc. All that had to be said was, "A woman cannot do that" and I'd go off and try it. Many young women don't realize that those of us who fought for the Ms. title during the 70s did make the work atmosphere a little better for those who came after us. Lord knows I paid a price for pushing myself out there in the limelight. But determination and perseverance are all powerful. I always try to stand up for my gender and help younger women if I can.

Good to see ya again Sparkly! :hi:

racism, sexism, and homophobia are completely unacceptable here. but
hating all southerners because an apparent majority of us are stupid is
completely allowed.

you have to be intentionally ignoring demographics to not get the point.

14. Sorry
I'm not intentionally ignoring demographics, just trying to understand. As a born Yankee, I didn't equate "rural religious white males" with the south in particular; plenty of rural religious white men elsewhere.

But I can't claim to know what was in the OP's mind... I seriously don't know what he was thinking! :hi:

18. I grew up in Wisconsin and we have plenty of those idiots there as well
The South doesn't have a monopoly on anti-intellectual right-wing religious freaks. They don't even need to be rural or male, though it certainly helps.

PS: Don't confuse this with sticking up for the OP. I honestly don't know what he's trying to say.

20. That could be happening anywhere
You can find "rural, religious white males" in lots of places. Pennsylvania, N. Dakota, Kansas, Utah, Oregon... even here in Colorado!

This is a crazy OP, but you're picking it apart for the wrong reasons.
