I think Joe Liberman has been promised something. I've been watching
Arianna on KO and they were discussing Joe. He has become very close to McCain, GWB just "hearts" him, and you know he's going to side with the Republicans in the Senate. We're going to have some very close votes coming up in the Senate, he may be the deciding vote, and this is not good. I'm thinking it has been decided by the "deciders" of the Repug party that McCain will be the nominee. Joe has been promised the VP by McCain if he does the right thing. I could be way out here, but I just have a feeling....

1. I wouldn't be surprised
Liebermann is the fig leaf for the administration. I've already heard McCAin and shrub say that "Democrats" think the war is ok because Holy Joe was re-elected. They have conveniently forgotten that he is now an Independent.

btw, are you from Freehold, NJ? My husband grew up there, and we visited the town two years ago. I found it quite charming.

2. Here's the thing.. You may be right he may have been
promised the VP nomination if he supports the Repugs in fighting the Dems...but the surprise will be on him because McCain will not choose him to be his VP...the last laugh will be loser Joe..

That's exactly what I thought when I saw them holding hands on CSPAN calling for an escalation. Ugh.

10. Time for Dems to twist the screws on Joe.
I've mentioned this elsewhere, but it bears repeating here. First we need to take away his bargaining power by getting a moderate GOP senator like Snowe to make a quiet agreement to switch parties should Lieberman jump ship. There are several I'm sure who would love to be in the majority, calling the shots, again.

Then teach him a lesson about the importance of party loyalty by holding evidence of one of his illegalities (such as his improper campaign slush fund, possible AIPAC spy case connections, etc) over his head to insure that he votes along party lines.

It's time to take Joe in hand.

14. Don't forget Lieb giving an easy ride on Katrina
But I think Lieb doesn't need to be promised anything at this point. This is where his heart lies. Bush will give him war, so he will give Bush respect and admiration.

but, McCain is done. He won't get the nomination and the dems don't like or trust Joe. I'm sure he's persona non grata with them.
The other night when Keith was interviewing Obama and asked about Joe he made this face and quickly covered it up. The dems know Joe is an opportunistic traitor.

There seem to be hints that LIEberman will be in for a nice "bi-partisan" deal with Chimpy...

24. I've thought there was a deal of some kind...
for some time now. But when Joe dropped the threat of a Katrina investigation, that sealed it. I have no idea what the deal IS...could be the VP, or something else. But even considering he's a suckup, abruptly dropping what he promised without explanation stinks to high heaven.

25. As I watched CNN today showing McCain & Lieberman side by side
My first thought was that I was looking at a McCain/Lieberman ticket.
Lieberman is getting on my last nerve these days.
No, actually, * is, but Lieberman is up there, too.

26. That would be fine with me...
LIEberman could be a two-time vp losing candidate, and show his colors to the whole nation at the same time.

McCain doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell to win potus, and LIEberman is an albatross.

27. Ignore LIeberman
Lieberman sold out, or freaked out or blew out in 2000.

My question to all the nutroots.

WHAT THE HELL DID YOU THINK LIEBERMAN WOULD DO.

No offence to the God is a Progressive Poster.

But I do believe it is time for everyone here and everywhere to start asking,

What can we be doing. And I mean action. I don't mean sitting around all day saying, do you believe, Bush did this. Yeah, I have been alive for the past six years, or, Lieberman sucked Bush's ass again. Yeah, I have seen that since 2000.

So if you really want to make a difference. You better start coming up with some plans to actually do something. I have been ranting on Global Warming. That is a billion times more important then impeachment which will never happen.

So quit wasting all day bitching and get some answers. We need plans. Not the same bitching that has gone on since 2000.

BUSH IS EVIL. LIEBERMAN IS A SUCK-UP. YEA WE GET IT.

28. If Lieberman were to do that, his political career may be done for.
Democrats can gain up to 5 seats (net) in 2008. The way things are going, Democrats will have alot on their side come the 2008 election. If Joe tries anything stupid, his career will be done for.

29. I had similar thoughts last night
when I was watching the Gates hearing. We've pretty much known where Lieberman stood on Iraq since the beginning, but I find it striking that he is now using Bushco's rhetoric, almost verbatim.

My thought was that the rethugs helped him get elected in November, in exchange for his future support on key issues. This serves as sort of an ace in the hole for them, especially when it comes to floor votes. I wonder if they also thought it might keep dems in check, for fear of alienating Lieberman and having him go to the other side.

Of course, they probably weren't sure dems would win majority, but it makes sense that they would do what they could to help Lieberman get in, knowing the rethug candidate didn't stand a chance. I'd be interested in seeing a detailed breakdown of Lieberman's contributors prior to the election.

You might be closer to the mark, though. McCain and Lieberman are pretty much marching in lock-step these days. Knowing how McCain doesn't particularly like or tolerate sharing the spotlight, there might very well be a reason he's been so chummy with Lieberman lately. The fucked up irony is that Lieberman might just attract a lot of rethugs that view McCain as too moderate for their tastes. How's that for bizarre?
