N.C. Dems prefer Edwards to Clinton, Obama
N.C. Dems prefer Edwards to Clinton, Obama
By Rob Christensen and Barbara Barrett--News-Observer
Thursday, January 11, 2007

----
North Carolina Republicans are divided over who should be their next presidential nominee, but Democrats like home boy John Edwards, according to a new poll.
Edwards, the former Tar Heel senator, had the support of 29 percent of Democratic voters, according to a survey by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh. Edwards is followed by New York Sen. Hillary Clinton (16 percent) and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama (15 percent), with 40 percent saying they would support another choice.
The former mayor of New York, Rudy Giuliani, had the support of 30 percent of GOP voters, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (29 percent), Arizona Sen. John McCain (22 percent) and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (6 percent). The remaining 13 percent supported someone else.

Edwards swipes at McCain
Edwards is calling for Congress to block funding for an escalation of the war in Iraq and is tying a potential rival -- GOP Sen. John McCain -- to the policy.
"George Bush's expected decision to adopt the McCain Doctrine and escalate the war in Iraq is a grave mistake," Edwards said in a statement.
Edwards said Congress "should make it clear to the president that he will not get any money to put more of our troops in harm's way until he provides a plan to turn responsibility of Iraq over to the Iraqi people and to ultimately leave Iraq."

2. John, I hate to burst your bubble here, but you need to prep yourself for the HRC/OBAMA spin on that
which is "Edwards only gets 29 percent in his home state".

There people are gonna hit you with that if they show up in this thread, just thought you should know.

8. That's NOT good news for Edwards!! He should be very worried!
He ONLY got 29% in his home state! I'm sorry but that terrible!
He should be polling at least 70% as a home boy! Kerry was higher (about 80% ?)in MA. Dean was even higher in VT. Even LieBerman won his home state election...and Edwards only has 29%... not good.

OK...to be fair...Dean and Kerry's state were Democratic and Edwards state is basically Republican...but they voted him in as Senator...so it still should be higher...but maybe about 60% instead of 80% so I don't think he has anything to celebrate...but of course..I could be prejudice.
