Schwarzenegger backs Bush Iraq plan: Can't pull out as "losers"
Gov. backs Bush's plan for Iraq
Schwarzenegger tells ABC News that the U.S. can't pull out of the war as 'losers.' But he says a timeline is needed to prod the Mideast nation.
By Jordan Rau, Times Staff Writer
January 13, 2007

SACRAMENTO — Bucking the disenchanted views of most Americans about the war, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that he supports President Bush's plan to increase the number of troops in Iraq.

"I think we should give it everything," Schwarzenegger responded when asked in a pre-taped television interview whether he supported Bush's plan to send an additional 21,000 troops. "We should give it everything in order to be victorious."

In the interview to be broadcast Sunday on ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," Schwarzenegger said he does not want the U.S. to "pull out of this war as losers." That would be "disastrous" for the Middle East, he said, according to portions of the interview distributed by the network Friday.

Schwarzenegger did break with the president by reiterating his support for a timeline for American troops to withdraw so that the Iraqis fully understand that they have "got to be independent," according to the ABC excerpt....

1. Losing anything is the pitts
so I have to agree with Arnold about doing everything
but set a timeline to make sure the Iraqi's get off
their duff and take up the responsibility for defending
their own country.

8. Some have taken on the responsibility of defending their own country
from the US, who has invaded and occupied for 4 years now.

But I guess that's not what you mean when you say "defending."

I think what you mean is, that those who benefitted from the US invasion and occupation need to get off their duffs and secure the country for US corporate interests.

My guess is that will be a hard sell. Why would most Iraqis want to do that?

18. I think that only because a majority of them held up purple fingers
So I have to believe a majority there want a country
free from dictatorship. But the time to commit open
ended US military support are now behind us. A timetable
for partial withdrawal is a must. The remaining troops
should stay in well protected enclaves to be used only as
BACKUPS if and when Iraqi soldiers face a large contigent
of insurgents.

17. Your attack is inexcusable
I'm an immigrant, as well, and I feel I have as much right as anyone born here to give my opinion about my country's foreign policy.

You should apologize for that post.

9. We have already lost.
Pretending that an American caused Iraq civil war is not happening is pretending there are WMD in Iraq. Now the neoCONs want to blame the Iraq people.

Bush failed to take control of the country. Bush failed to get the country's infrastructure up and running again. He failed to allow the Iraq economy to develop. The bushes instituted the neoCON wet dream "free market" in Iraq through the Iraq Constitution. The bushes outlawed Unions, open all markets to foreign control, took away every tariff and regulation that protected the workers in Iraq. The bushes created this mess, now the bushes complain the Iraq people are not taking charge?

He has left them a big fat mess and doesn't understand why they wont do as he tells them to. The Iraq people want our troops out of their country. We made a big enough mess out of it. We have already lost.

11. Remember how he got into office folks...his first job was to shut down the lawsuit
against the energy barons that ripped California off for millions. He is fully in the pocket of the oil barons, no matter how 'green' his thumbs have become.
