As a "Nation of Immigrants" should we allow Iraqi's to Immigrate Here
A discussion on NPR seemed to say that the Iraq Interpreters and Security People who worked with the Coalition are trying to Immigrate to the US but they are being BLOCKED by beaurocratic red tape.

We allowed lots of Vietnamese escaping who were our allies to come to America and we have lots of South Africans here in the US who escaped from persecution. Should we allow thousands of Iraqi's who helped us who are now living in poverty in "Jordan and Syria" to have "Political Asylum" in the US?

Why has Bush clamped down on allowing all the folks affected by our INVASION to not be allowed to come here to the US...those who seek Asylum from the "ravages of war."

1. But I thought...
we fought them over there so we wouldn't have to fight them here!

2. The NPR Discussion seemed to say these were American Allies who

have been persecuted (bombed, children and families raped and abused and killed) and it's because they have supported US.

4. I was kidding
Yes, these people are in the same situation as the Hmong in the seventies. They should be given asylum.

However, the freepist right will greet them as potential terrorists and make them the most oppressed minority in the US.

5. 1.8 million Iraqi refugees - that's only those who fled abroad...
So, aside from the undoubtedly millions more "internally" displaced Iraqis, fleeing from the violent collapse of the country into civil war.

Here's a NYT story about the relatively tiny contingent of Iraqi refugees who officially requested asylum in Western Europe, of which a surprisingly large group opted for... Sweden.

6. We already have, after becoming naturalized citizens, they can continue to vote in Iraqi elections
as well as U.S. elections.

The sad thing is U.S. troops who are fighting in Iraq are not allowed to vote in Iraqi elections.
