Make not only peace with the Democrats .... join with them and make common cause. Abandon that prince of darkness and ask your veep to resign .... for 'health reasons' is good enough. Name a serious, mainstream, prominent Democrat not now holding office as your veep. In my dreams, that would be Mario Cuomo. But I'll be happy with Edwards or Clark.

Send your cabinet down to Capitol Hill to roll up their sleeves and work with their house and senate counterparts to craft GOOD policy. It will pass, no doubt. The Democratic leadership will guide you.
