New PA Dem Rep Jason Altmire does Colbert's "Better Know a District"

Rep. Jason Altmire is just a few weeks into his new job as a Pennsylvania congressman, but the McCandless Democrat already has made a career move that many of his colleagues wouldn't dare to consider.

He's a guest tonight on the hit Comedy Central show, "The Colbert Report," which is exceptionally adept at poking fun at lawmakers.

"They tell you in advance that you're not supposed to be funny. You're not supposed to show him up," Mr. Altmire said. "If you go in with an attitude, those are the interviews that don't turn out so well."

Mr. Colbert repeatedly tried to get Mr. Altmire to say negative things about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Rep. John Murtha, D-Johnstown, the senior member of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation.

"I said we should implement the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. He said, 'How many recommendations are there?' I told him, and he said, 'Name them,'" Mr. Altmire said. "He tries to throw you off."
