2. Yes!
It would be so nice to have a President who is not a Psychopath. :P

But Webb came across as not only competent, self-assured but also thoughtful and capable of empathy.

An excellent contrast. :-)

4. Isn't he conservative on a lot of issues?
No thanks. He's kind of a maverick. He's good for VA, but not sure I'd trust him to nominate progressive judges.

8. Wait a minute... you're in Kentucky?
Do you have any Liberal Democrats there?

In red or purple states, it's generally the more centrist or even conservative Democrats that are getting elected. If it's a choice between them or a THUG, I'll take the Democrat any day of the week!

As far as the original question. Jim Webb would be incredible compared to the flake we have in the WH right now.. but I think he'll be happy for now right where he is!

16. Agreed 100% larissa - and we're in red state hell
sigh.......... maybe not for much longer..

Webb is very much a centrist; he is also highly intelligent, and knows how to use that brain. I'd vote for him in a heartbeat if he was our nominee.

On a side note - let's you & me & all Alaska DU'ers keep Blue in our thoughts and prayers as she heads to DC for the BIG ONE!!! I kind of feel like her presence means we're all there, even if we can't physically arrive! (Hey, nobody ever said Alaskans don't stick together!) :hi::hug::hi:

9. He's definitely pro choice and supports civil unions
I don't think he promotes the religious wrong's agenda by any means. He was a Republican because he says that he used to agree with them on foreign policy. While I don't agree that they were ever right about foreign policy, I don't care that much about his past.

7. Yes, he'sextremely well spoken, and he soundsvery real.
I heard NO er, ah, hm, or anything like that. But but in 08. He's way too new, and for no other reason than to let HIM get the feel for what DC politics is really like, andbuilda name for himself. I happen to think Webb will do all of that, and in a fairly short time.

10. Not only no, but HELL NO.
Look, he did a fantastic job tonight. He's the PERFECT Senator to represent VA. But Presidential?

No way.

A temper like a MAD DOG. Too many damned ex-wives...WAY too many. Incredible sexist baggage from the old days--yes, he's "evolved" but it wasn't just a little commentary--it was pretty damned vitriolic.

So, no, he's not Presidential. But he's quite Senatorial.

13. How many ex-wives?
I thought this was wife #2.

Bill Clinton supposedly had a legendary bad temper.

15. She's number three. Number one lives in MD, number two in VA (she campaigned for him)
and then there's number three, the much younger Hong, who is no slouch--she's an attorney with a pretty impressive resume. She just had a baby this past December. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/11/02/AR2006110201673_pf.html

And Bill did have a bad temper, but he hid it better, and compensated with public charm that Webb just does not, and never will, have. Webb has gotten shirty in public. I've seen it. He's way better than he used to be, that's one of the benefits of aging, you see.

That said, I still think he's a fantastic Senator for Virginia. I'm delighted he made it. I think, though, that he is where he belongs, politically.

14. I think he's too good for Veep
It would be a waste of talent & intelligence.

And he doesn't strike me as a second banana type.

19. Funny you should ask that, because as we watched the Democratic response...
I said to my husband "Look for this guy to run for president in a few years."
I know virtually nothing about Jim Webb, and I was extremely impressed with him last night. Calm, assured, articulate, and above all GENUINE.
