McCain Loses Ground, Trails Obama and Edwards
Senator John McCain (news, bio, voting record) (R), one of the most vocal advocates of sending more troops to Iraq, has lost ground in the Election 2008 sweepstakes. He now trails both John Edwards (D) and Barack Obama (news, bio, voting record) (D) in general election match-ups. Prior to this survey, McCain had been ahead of every Democratic challenger in every Rasmussen Reports poll (see summary of general election match-ups).

Obama leads McCain 47% to 44%. Edwards also holds a three-point lead, 46% to 43%. A month ago, McCain held a two-point edge over Obama and a five point lead over Edwards.

McCain's support has declined among unaffiliated voters. Obama now leads McCain by an 11-point margin among this important segment of the electorate. Edwards and McCain are essentially even among unaffiliated voters.

2. Nice to see McCain's numbers falling
He's probably their best candidate. I know many will say Rudy is tougher to beat, but he's got plenty of skeletons and he'll go unhinged at some point like he always does...and that's if he even survives the primary.

BTW, was this before or after Obama supposedly attending a Madrassah...Just wondering if that is really having any impact on him...

4. The poll was conducted Jan 17 - 18
I think the Madrassa BS was right around that time, wasn't it?

10. Let's just say, it was before McCain fell asleep
at the State of the Union.
We should make his falling asleep a big deal. Which it is, if you think about the importance of the event. Senators must pay attention to what the president says, even if it's the worst president ever, George W. Bush.

13. The accusation was done on Jan. 17th
on Insight Magazine. If we assume that voter confusion took place before the story was debunked, then it's safe to conclude that this non-story had no effect on vote intention. And since more people watch CNN, AP and the Washington Post (all 3 debunked the story independently) than this right-wing rag and Fox News put together, it's possible that Obama gained from these developments.

3. Bush Called his Bluff
McCain called for more troops, knowing that Bush was no way crazy enough to do it. Ha! NEVER underestimate how crazy Bush is!

Now McCain is toast.

11. And Giuliani is too close to the center
for Southern taste. I think the GOP is in big trouble.
Newt Gingrich is as bad or worse than W.
Oh, and Romney is pro-gay.

7. This is just a guess
but could it be that the majority of Americans who want us to leave Iraq, and oppose the war, don't want one of the war's most fervent hawks becoming president? That would go triple for Holy Joe. How I wish just one Publican would cross over to the Democratic party. It really irks me that Lieberman is trying to get everybody to kiss his ass to keep him from voting with the Publicans.
