Looking at the current field there is no one who I feel I could support with my money and/or my time and energy. Here are a few of the questions I want these guys to answer before they get my support.
Before you say, look it up yourself, just think. I'm a pretty well informed person. If I don't know these things you can take it to the bank that the average American won't know them either.
Clinton: You voted for the IWR. Until recently you supported the war though you criticized the administration for ineptitude in pursuing what you thought was a worthy goal. You have yet to say it was a mistake. How can I trust your judgment when you failed to notice that this President was hellbent on war and to foresee that knocking off Saddam Hussein would only be the beginning of a long guerrilla war? You failed to speak out against this war even after it became clear that Bush had made a hash out of it. Also, you've ridden the coattails of your husband to power. As a woman, shouldn't I wait for a woman who has risen to power on her own if I want to vote for a woman president?
Obama: Senator, you're a great guy. You had the good judgment to oppose the war from the beginning. You have an appealing vision. But what is it in your background that makes you qualified to run the United States Government?
Edwards: Senator, like Obama, you're a great guy. You've seen your vote on the IWR for the mistake that it was. I love your emphasis on working Americans. You may have the appeal and charisma to win. But what is it in your background that makes you qualified to run the United States Government?
Biden: Senator, you're considered a smart guy when it comes to foreign policy. how then did you not notice back in 2003 that this President was hellbent on war and failed to foresee that knocking off Saddam Hussein would only be the beginning of a long guerilla war? Also, why did you vote for that bankruptcy bill?
Richardson: Governor, unlike most of the competition you have terrific experience. You did a great job putting together that settlement in Darfur. What have you done different as Governor that has broken ground in making your state a better place to live for ordinary people. And by the way, what's the real story about Wen Ho Lee and could you please clear up those nasty allegations that you have, shall we say, a rather crude sense of humor. It doesn't have to be true to hurt, Governor. Ask John Kerry.
Vilsack: I don't know a thing about you. What have you done different as Governor that has broken ground in making your state a better place to live for ordinary people? How would you make this country a better place for ordinary people.
Dodd: Why did you not notice back in 2003 that this President was hellbent on war and also failed to foresee that knocking off Saddam Hussein would only be the beginning of a long guerilla war? What have you done as Senator that was outstanding enough to make me think that you'd do a great job as President?
Clark: General, you have been right on so many foreign policy issues that I can't even begin. How though, will you, a military guy, be able to do the sort of horse trading that is necessary to get things done in politics? Also, what have you learned from your last run. Finally, are you ready to fight some nasty smears that will emerge from your military days. It doesn't have to be true to hurt, Governor. Ask John Kerry.
Kucinich: Congressman, I applaud your unwavering stand on the issues. I'd like to know a little more about your time as mayor. There are some allegations that you drove the city into bankruptcy? or was it default? Also, is America ready for a vegan president? Can you be creative enough to turn you lack of, let me put this gently, photogenic appeal, on its head?
If Al Gore jumped into the fray, that could change, but even Al would have to show me a few things.
Gore: You're right on the war, right on Civil Liberties, right on Global Warming. You were a major supporter of NAFTA and other trade agreements. Have the economic conditions that have resulted from these agreements changed your opinions and how would you protect ordinary Americans from the ravages of globalization? Finally, you're a great guy, funny, smart and brilliant. Last time you ran, you were so cautious that voters never got to see the real you. If you get into the race can you keep the Woodman from taking over and continue to show voters the Al Gore who they loved in "An Inconvenient Truth"?
The good thing is, the primaries are a long time away. I can wait.
