I wonder why the internets love Al Gore so much?

'Cause make no mistake, we do. :D Is it because he invented us? :rofl: Or, seriously, is it because a certain "type" of person is common online, that person being intelligent, contemplative, and well-read, and we identify with Mr. Gore and see that we have things in common? Is it because the internet is very liberal? Is it because the internet is very cutting-edge.... lots of early adopters on here, not just early adopters of technology but also of social ideas -- like the idea that we should flipping do something about the future of our planet?

Thoughts? I'm just rambling here.

On edit: I think it does have a lot to do with intelligence (both his and ours) and the fact that he sees the potential in new ideas and technology. He recognized that the internet could benefit people's lives through communication and access to unlimited information. He saw the potential in giving average citizens a voice in media (Current TV). Both of those things give people a way to communicate with the world and share information - without it being filtered by the corporate media, the politicians or the spin doctors. He's not afraid of the voice of the people ... in fact, he WANTS to hear it. How can we not love the guy?

The only two people on the planet I've ever heard say "Internets" were GW Bush.......

It was too dumb to go un-immortalized.

The day may come when that majority will be internet savy, and communicate their real fealings, but I don't believe it's here yet.

I like the Al Gore I see today, but the one who ran the campaign just wasn't making it.

Ask yourself if we are better off than we were in 2000... and keep asking it until the next President sits duly elected by the people.

I voted for him in 2000 and he won the popular vote.

I would vote for him again in 2008 if he wins the nomination.

Frankly, while I've always liked him, I think he's grown politically over the last six years. I think he'd be even better this time around. :)

As opposed to other forms of media where you are spoonfed shit and get no reaction from asking questions that must be asked.

Those who only get their news from the TV have mainly only seen political hack jobs on Al Gore. Much more of the truth can be found on the "internets" than on TV.

Probably because the more well-educated people are, the more broadminded they tend to be, and thus, inevitably, more liberal. Not only can you broaden your mind on the internet by how much more information you have access to. You can see news reports that never reached the light of day in your hometown newspaper, or the bigger, more widely-available ones like the NYTimes and Washington Post or the broadcast/cable outlets. And it's not filtered. And it's by-and-large free. That's one reason why kkkarl rove himself once said, only half-kidding, that "too much education is not necessarily a good thing." AND why there were moves, recently, within the bad-guy-led Congress to limit and control the internet.

Second; because Gore is on a high profile mission to stop Global Warming, and he is showing great leadership on it, and that is something that all Democrats can agree on. No one is second guessing Gore's stand on his current signature issue. We all applaud it strongly.

Third; since he is not primarily acting like someone involved in politics, Gore is safely out of the line of intra Democratic fire at the moment. From the few recent comments that Al Gore has made regarding present day Iraq, his position seems to be very similar to that taken by Wes Clark for example. But Wes Clark has been highly identified with his position regarding Iraq precisely because he has talked and written a great deal about it. Unlike Global Warming, the best policy for dealing with America's occupation of Iraq right now is not a perfect point of unity consensus for Democrats. Everyone who stakes out a highly visible clear position regarding it is going to get dragged through the mud by someone. It is very rare indeed that I see anyone even ask what Al Gore thinks we should be doing about Iraq right now. He has side stepped that for now.

The fact that Al Gore is not making many political statements right now makes it easier for us all to focus on his many good points and positive qualities, and not be diverted into comparing his current specific position on Free Trade or whatever with that of Edwards, or Obama, or Clinton, or Clark, or Kucinich or anyone else. I have no doubt that Al Gore will remain popular should he enter the political fray. He is popular with me for one. But Gore occupies a unique position as a wise elder statesman and world wide environmental leader right now, but no one can coast into a nomination on that without going through the trench warfare of primary politics first.

I think Gore can more than hold his own in that if he enters, but this is a uniquely golden moment for him, before anyone starts throwing any punches.

The way you put it makes me think he will NOT run. I mean, he's got it all! :D
