Sean Penn got it right today!

Impeachment, right now, would cost 1,000 US soldiers lives and the Senate wouldn't convict since they all voted for the 2002 Iraq Authorization and they themselves said Saddam had WMD's and nuclear capabilities since the 1998 Iraq Liberation Act, which they also voted for. This idea they were lied to is pure BS.

Non-binding resolutions are toilet paper and as Sen. Russ Feingold said this is "slow walking."

It is time to end this war in Iraq and get our soldiers out of Iraq before anymore die in this failed war.

Penn is right that we should not be distracted by a partisan battle over impeachment ... we are not ready YET to bring impeachment proceedings ... he is right that this would destroy any possibility of ending the war soon because it would preclude any possibility of a bi-partisan consensus against the war.

it's clear that members in both parties, even if they won't YET say so publically, see the utter folly of continuing the war ...

but, while our first step should NOT be impeachment, bush must be made to answer for his treasonous crimes against the country ... he sold us out for corporate greed ... he lied to Congress ... he ordered torture ... and he violated our Constitutional rights without using the FISA court ... the right path is to aggressively pursue investigations ... let the evidence we find do our talking ...

in the meantime, let's stay focussed on ending the damned war ...

Lots of pressure from anti war mobilizations on the Congress and media. Demonstrations etc. But, should organizations work to bring forth evidence why Bush should be impeached, it still impacts on his war mongering by undermining his policies and reminding the American people what a liar Bush is when he talks about his war.

we can debate the merits of impeachment, but our efforts, right now, should be to end the Iraqi war and getting our soldiers home.

This idea going around that it can't be done quickly is disconcerting. The Congress could pass a binding resolution to end the war with no more effort than they are currently wasting on non-binding tissue paper.

are talking about at least another year in Iraq ... they talk about the need for regional diplomacy ... they say that we can't win this thing with just our military ...

i think "regional diplomacy" is critical ... i couldn't agree more that we can't "win this thing" with just our military ... the more important point, however, is that WE can't win this thing at all ... the "great" plan from the Senate Dems all along has been that "as Iraqi troops stand up, we can stand down" ... as Kerry recently pointed out, we've trained over 300,000 Iraqi troops ... and what is the loyalty of these troops? what is the effect of all this training we've done? they've aligned on very deep, very historic lines ... they are not supporting the government in Baghdad, they are supporting the militias that reflect their religion and their sect ... how many more troops must we train for the Iraqi civil war? how many more American troops getting killed or maimed for life is "an acceptable number that's worth the investment"???????

i can see NO JUSTIFICATION for remaining in Iraq at all ... Democrats are saying we need to stay for at least another year! truly it is crazy and i cannot support them on this position ... does anyone believe remaining in occupation will eventually lead to a positive outcome?????

i hear the message that "we can't afford to fail" ... it's probably true ... i hear the message of concern for the genocide that could occur when we leave ... these are very real concerns and i don't dismiss them at all ... the problem is, that whether we stay or we go cannot change Iraq's fate ... what will be will be ... tossing away another TRILLION dollars or losing more American lives for a lost cause makes no sense ... it makes no sense today; it makes no sense tomorrow and it makes no sense a year from now ...

Democrats have to stop all this madness and get behind a strategy that extricates our troops as quickly as troop safety permits ... after that, we can talk about diplomacy and reconstruction and ideas for regional healing ...

That cannot co-exist with a modern woman can get it right now and then.
