Talk me out of this nagging terror:
Bush is looking worse and worse. Cheney is looking awful.

We have how many months before the convention? What if the Republicans have a fit of independence and toss the entire Bush slate and go with someone cleaner (they must have one or two)? They haven't left themselves any time for campaigning but that could work in their favor.

The shock of cleaning up their act could bring their faithful home in vast relief.

Without Bush to be against, Democratic turnout might wane.

Could they win with that strategy?

1. Republicans won't do that
They are to committed to their dynastic ways.

It's not just the Bushs, the GOP has been this way for decades, they go with the guy whose "turn it is."

That's how they nominated Dole, when they knew damn well he didn't stand a chance, it was his turn.

2. That would mean that the Repuplican
party is totally falling apart. Who could they nominate that would satisfy the right wing nuts, the conservatives and what is left in there of the at least half human northeast liberal Repuplican types? It's too late for them. They are stuck with Bush*. May be able to let Cheney have a heart attack but even then everyone knows that that would be suspicious since he is in so much trouble with Plamegate and Halliburtin deals. Our biggest concerns are still BBV, media bias, and all that money he has.

5. I have claimed in other threads...
NOTE: The following post does not advocate harm for any elected
official or any other person. It merely speculates on a scenario
that could occur.

I have claimed in other threads that if Bush ever really screwed up,
his own people would ensure that a "terrorist event" would occur
and this event would end in the loss of the President's life.
Cheney would, of course, immediately assume the Presidency but
assert that his worsening heart condition prevented him from
standing for election in 2004 as the President. There'd be a
quick shuffle of power and a new Republican team would emerge,
blessed with the benfits of instant incumbency and yet having
no big paper trail/record in office to attack. And US voters
would, of course, vote Republican in massive numbers as a show
of solidarity with Our Nation's Leaders(tm).

6. I'm more worried about the amount
of time between the end of the Dem primaries and the GE.

I think the primary is gonna be over by March 2, with, at this point a pretty strong certainty that Kerry will be the nominee.

That leaves 8 months before the GE. That's an eternity. I'm worried about us keeping our momentum and being able to be on Bush's a$$ for that amount of time. Words of encouragement needed . . .

7. They could even do it keeping Bush at the top
It's so simple it's scarry. All Bush needs to do is "wake up" to the "shocking" incompetence of his administration and institute a major shake-up of his cabinet. It would show him to once again be a strong and decisive leader who won't stand for amything less than strong honest leadership. A thorough house-cleaning of the VPs office would mitigate just about every pile of doodoo Bush is standing in right now. His approval ratings would sky rocket.
