For crying out loud: Media manufactures John Kerry's tears
Eric Boehlert: "Scores of major news players last week concocted the phony storyline that Sen. John Kerry shed tears of regret while announcing his plans to sit out the 2008 race. He did no such thing. For observers who want to understand the media's mindset as the next White House run unfolds, they'd be hard-pressed to find a more telling and alarming example than the botched coverage surrounding Kerry's straightforward proclamation last week. Indeed, the incident raises all sorts of doubts, on the eve of the 2008 campaign, about the ability of Beltway journalists to perform the simplest tasks, such as taking notes when a prominent Democrat gives a speech and then accurately reporting on that speech."

1. Inability or uwillingness?
I can't understand how anyone can continue to think this is coming from incompetence or a desire to get ratings or sell ads or copies. I really can't

2. KERRY
He is still my choice, and always will be.

Yes he was very sad, and almost had tears in his eyes like I did watching him
but he kept his composure.

So SCREW the media, or any swift boat operative

KERRY/CLARK 2008

OH MEOW

9. Beautiful post
I agree wholeheartedly. As you said, he maintained his composure - and the moment his voice broke was speaking of things happening that destroy what he has worked for since Vietnam.

The saddness was that but for better voting machines and organization in Ohip, he would be turning the country from the course Bush put on on to one that has a positive role in the world, practices social justice in the US and improves the environment. In 1971, he spoke of turning the country from the foreign policy that got us stuck in Vietnam. This is something to get emotional about. These writers who prefer to constantly stab him in the back should consider what they did. In 2004, they sold a sociopath as a nice guy, while lying about a man with the character and intelligence to make a difference.

That they chose this moment, which had to be painful, to attack him is despicable.

3. The Royal Punditry helps choose our "leaders"
This story about misreporting Kerry is but one of many since 2003. These people shape opinions..all while they're not doing their job and as they puppet one another.

Liberal media, my derriere...

KERRY SEEKS TO REVERSE FCC’S “WRONGHEADED VOTE”
COMMISSION DECISION MAY VIOLATE LAWS PROTECTING SMALL BUSINESSES; KERRY TO FILE RESOLUTION OF DISAPPROVAL
Monday, June 2, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator John Kerry today announced plans to file a “Resolution of Disapproval” as a means to overturn today’s decision by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to raise media ownership caps and loosen various media cross-ownership rules.

Kerry will soon introduce the resolution seeking to reverse this action under the Congressional Review Act and Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act on the grounds that the decision may violate the laws intended to protect America’s small businesses and allow them an opportunity to compete.

As Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Kerry expressed concern that the FCC’s decision will hurt localism, reduce diversity, and will allow media monopolies to flourish. This raises significant concerns about the potential negative impacts the decision will have on small businesses and their ability to compete in today’s media marketplace.

In a statement released earlier today regarding the FCC’s decision, Kerry said:
“Nothing is more important in a democracy than public access to debates and information, which lift up our discourse and give Americans an opportunity to make honest informed choices. Today’s wrongheaded vote by the Republican members of the FCC to loosen media ownership rules shows a dangerous indifference to the consolidation of power in the hands of a few large entities rather than promoting diversity and independence at the local level. The FCC should do more than rubber stamp the business plans of narrow economic interests.

“Today’s vote is a complete dereliction of duty. The Commissioners are well aware that these rules greatly influence the competitive structure of the industry and protect the public’s access to multiple sources of information and media. It is the Commission’s responsibility to ensure that the rules serve our national goals of diversity, competition, and localism in media. With today’s vote, they shirked that responsibility and have dismissed any serious discussion about the impact of media consolidation on our own democracy.”

5. It is hard to believe ..
they are so stunningly unaware of how they brainlessly parrot the republican talking points ...

I swear, if I hear Wolf Blitzer call someone a "good" conservative one more time ...

Hardball last night ... Just mindboggling seeing Mathews want to someone turn Hill's off the cuff remark aimed at Bill into a negative ... He had EVERY single guest, even the conservatives, giving her a tip of the hat for a nice chip at her hubby, after all the endless dribble about how she is too serious, and he used 10 different rationalizions for each of them to excuse how they were just sticking up for her ...

Hill is angry and shrill ...
Dean a nutjob ...
Gore a geek ...
Kerry a dolt ...

Bush is resolute ...
McCain is a straightshooter ...
Guiliani a hero ...

Reality be damned, this is how they report it ...
