CLARK Speaking next on C-SPAN...Road to the White House.
This would be a good time for him to announce! Got my fingers crossed.

Go get him Clark.

3. Right, a lot of fellow Democrats will be watching as well as anyone interested in politics.
A lot of undecided will be watching everyone and I think will stand out.
Another advantage to announcing now is C-SPAN will repeat it over and over...plus the weekend shows will all be talking.

4. Damn he didn't announce! I was really hoping.
I wonder when he will?

Edwards seems to have a big crowd there.

17. I Just Watched It. He Was Great, .. Some Things I Noticed . . .
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 06:38 PM by Dinger
The audience applause was rather tepid in the beginning, and it grew steadily, as he spoke. It really did look like he was winning over some possible detractors. Not that they will change their vote, but they definitely paid more attention to him as the speech went on.
As far as his actual speech, he was superb, he really was. You could tell how sad he was about the families of the fallen soldiers. He seemed to be explaining his experience, and how a REAL president (with this experience) is what this country needs. (Sort of like saying HE is what this country needs, without actually saying it). When he said how proud he was to have served in the military, and how proud he was of our soldiers, it almost seemed like he was making the point that it wasn't a draw-back, it was NECESSARY. I'll summarize the main points I took from his speech :

1. He talked about his qualifications to be President, and how it could be a benefit for this country.
2. He feels sad for those who have lost their lives in this unjust w-ar. He said this is personal for him.
It is breaking his heart what is happening to our soldiers in Iraq.
3. To serve in the military is an honor, and a calling, for some.
4. He wants to run. (I will be shocked if he doesn't.)

Did anybody else read something different our of his speech? I'm interested in ALL opinions.

6. I really liked what he had to say, but just by judging from the crowd reaction....
he's definitely an underdog.

11. Note the theme song Clark chose
Johny Cash's version of "I won't BAck Down". When he deliverd this line early in his speech:

"I get angry with elected officials who dragged our country deeper and deeper into Iraq when there are so many urgent problems at home and abroad, and I ask, can't we do better!"

...I immediately wondered how many people in that crowd he put off with that. There were a lot of elected officials who supported the IWR, plus their friends and allies, sitting in that room in front of him. I think it might make them feel uncomfortable to have a potential Democratic Presidential nominee head down that road. Perhaps that'w why Clark chose the song he did.

But comparing Clark's speech to the one's Obama's and Edwards's gave, there was little to be thoughtful about in their speeches, compared to Clark. I was planning to do more live blogging of Clark's speech, I think it contained many powerful lines, but I couldn't hold onto them long enough to finish typing hardly any of them, because I found myself distracted by the next point that Clark was always launching into, I alwasy wanted to listen closely to that one also, and so on. Clark built in less obvious applause lines than some other speakers, I could use those pauses to type up what the other guys were saying when they spoke, but not with Clark.

Clark spoke with a personal intensity that made me quietly listen to him. It wasn't a pep talk that he delivered. I would bet my bottom dollor that a comparison of the transcript of Clark's comments will held up much stronger in print than those of either Obama or Edwards, the two other speakers who I listened to. Not because of Clark's delivery, which was strong, but because the substance in his comments bears reading and thinking about.

13. I doubt it's the first time they've heard it from him
"I get angry with elected officials who dragged our country deeper and deeper into Iraq when there are so many urgent problems at home and abroad, and I ask, can't we do better!"

But in public I imagine it would have caused discomfort.

14. Also the remark that he's walked the walk, basically
and for 34 years... in contrast to others who talk about it in vague and abstract terms. I imagine bringing up that distinction might make some cringe a little.

15. Isn't it a little early to call him an underdog?
He hasn't even announced he's starting an exploratory yet?
For someone who hasn't officially entered the race...he did well and it shows Dean and others thought well enough of him to LET him speak! That's significant in it's self!

18. Watching Clark speak today..
I was totally awed. He didn't come out there, to get tons of rah-rahs..he came to deliver a message. That he did. His message was to alert the DNC'R's that we are in a crises..we need to protect our soldiers. His love of the soldiers, breaks his heart, knowing we got there for lies. They are Fighting a war, while politicians, set in a room, talking, and NOT talking to the right people.
As I viewed the audience...they were mostly silent, but not because they were NOT listening. The audience was focused on what he was saying. I saw a man leaning forward, intently listening to what his words. The general didn't give them the punch lines to cheer for, as in his opinion, this invasion was not necessary, soldiers are dying, innocent Iraqi's dying, and wanted the people to hear the truth. His concern, is Iran is next...

I didn't want to hear rah rha's...I wanted facts..and truth...
