Edwards up now at DNC meeting....
Mentions Molly Ivins and wife wearing Red ....Women's Health.

Nice touch....

Personalizing poverty with stories.....It doesn't have to be that way.

1. Edwards is doing way better than Clark
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 11:12 AM by pstans
I have watched Edwards, Clark, and Obama. Edwards's speech is much more moving than Clark's. Edward is hitting this one out of the park. Calling the audience to stand up (and they are, cheering along the way).

I would rank the speeches as 1. Edwards, 2. Obama, 3. Clark.

4. Clark just gave facts and info, he didn't personalize the speech, except about himself

6. Clark didn't do the speech he did in Nevada.....he should have.
Edwards is actually talking about Iraq with more passion...and more directly...than Clark.

Clark's speech was heavy on "I'm Wes Clark" as if he had to introduce himself to the audience. He didn't need to do that.

The Nevada speech was the one he should have given...it was fabulous.

12. Edwards did a terrific job, Clark was a bit stiff
and when I watched him the term "beleagured" came to mind. Looks tired. I have seen him much more inspiring.

Nobody hits it out of the ballpark every time at bat. No biggie.

13. I thought he seem sad for a whole lot of reasons.....
one being that he understands that in politics it ain't about what you've really done but what you say and how much ass you kiss.

14. It was a great speech by Edwards.
It has been hard to inspire me lately, but I felt a little lifted up by it. Our two Republican sons will vote for him. I never heard him speak that much before, but it was very good.

16. Watch all the speeches at dnc.org
So far I watched Clark and Edwards. Some of Edwards speech you can't actually see because of his supporters holding up their signs.

Clark was OK. Very strong military flavor. He says "I am a soldier" - what happened to having a civilian President of the US? And that quote from General MacArthur was patriotic bordering on the militaristic. Some "red meat" for the "red states" - but is it really so glorious to fight and die in Iraq?

Edwards was - sorry to say - slick. He used a lot of trial lawyer tricks of the trade. You can see how he got so many jury members to go with his side of the case. I can't help thinking that this is a salesman selling a product. For someone who co-sponsored the IWR in 2002, his current position on Iraq is a "new flavor". I am afraid he is telling us what he thinks we want to hear. "You didn't like the old flavor? -- here try this one!"

Don't get me wrong. I am confident that both men can make a major contribution to the success of the next Democratic administration.

I still need to watch Hillary and Obama's speeches before I rush to judgement on their candidacies ... ;)

To be honest - if we are talking about who would make the best President over a full 8 years, I am still hoping that Al Gore enters the race at some point before the end of this year (preferably by November 4th).

Let's all find ways to show our support for Al Gore! :)
