Rudy sunk in GOP, Dean says
http://www.nydailynews.com/front/story/494088p-416103c.html

Rudy Giuliani crushes Sen. John McCain in most categories of a new poll, but Democratic Chairman Howard Dean believes that Giuliani will be rejected by Republican voters.

Dean says he thinks the former mayor will be ousted during the GOP's primaries because of his support for gay and abortion rights.

"Giuliani has taken positions that are admirable but are out of step with the mainstream of his party," Dean said in an interview with the Daily News. "He's going to have a hell of a battle."

Giuliani spokeswoman Katie Levinson scoffed, saying, "Republican voters will ultimately choose their candidate for President based on who they believe will lead most effectively."

Dean, who will referee the Democrats' first candidate forum starting today, indicated how the party will go after other Republican presidential candidates. Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will be painted as a "flip-flopper" and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) will be depicted as "moving to the right."

1. If The Repubs Turn On Themselves, We're In Great Shape
I think Al Gore would have a cakewalk, as could any of the Democratic candidates, if the repubs were forced to nominate someone who wasn't strong enough, or had lots of baggage, i.e. McCain.

2. Good. Frame those Republican bastards right now.
Stick 'em in a box, and then stick a fork in 'em.

Once again, Dean is spot on. :toast:

4. Imagine Rudy chosing Joe Lieberman as his running mate.
Aaaaugh! I hope I didn't provoke providence by that statement.

5. I don't think it's positions that'll sink Giuliani as much as closer scrutiny on
his tenure as NYC mayor will be. He was not a popular mayor until 9/11 — and ruled with so much secrecy that he made Bush look like an open government type.

6. While Dems are "sunk"
for parsing words how is that Rudy's running presence on YouTube- in an awkward drag skit with Trump- is not his political gravestone?

Run THAT on Fox a few days and this idle speculation he even has a chance is toast.

8. I don't think Rudy is pro-choice or pro gay rights...
He's a Repug, plain and simple. When it comes time to run for President, he'll show his true colors.

9. Qutie a few Republicans are pro-choice--if their daughters...
Or mistresses are involved. And get along with their (less discriminating) gay friends or relatives.

But they hide their "true colors" to get votes.

10. I disagree- they hate McCain even more, and Romney ...
will be hard pressed to gain traction with his chamelon-like political shifts and his Mormon religion.

Rudy "seems" conservative when he talks- he comes across as a tough guy in a way that appeals to Republicans I know. I think they will be able to close their eyes and forget about his policy positions based upon his image.

I actually think Rudy would be our strongest opponent and after the 2006 elections I'm afraid the Republicans will realize that a true conservative won't win.
