America's Day of Shame
Monday is the fourth anniversary of Colin Powell's fateful UN presentation.

Please stop by dayofshame.org and share your thoughts about a government and news media that badly, badly let us down that day... and ever since.

It's simply staggering when you sit down and think about how much was lost on that day.

4. Pretty much every day is a day of shame since 1/20/2001
some a bit more shameful, but every day has it's tinge of shame.

5. To some extent, the biggest day of shame was the day after...
on 2/6/03, when the press said "bring it on" to this war of whim.

The question is, what has to be done to again have a media worthy of our trust?

Some politicians will lie, and some will be incompetent, and some will do a lot of both. Without a news media that does its job, it's hard to stop them.

Can the media be fixed with regulations (e.g., bringing back the fairness doctrine, laws against media consolidation), self-policing, public outcry? Will netroots someday supplant corporate media?

If you can suggest any solutions, please share 'em!

Thx,
lwcon / Vast Left
