Senator Clinton 'heckled' at DNC winter meeting for stance on Iraq
Edited on Fri Feb-02-07 01:19 PM by meegbear
Earlier today, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) was heckled at the DNC winter meeting by audience members who are unhappy with her stance on the war in Iraq.

Clinton, who voted in 2002 to give President Bush the right to use force to overthrow the Saddam Hussein regime, spoke today of the non-binding resolution that will appear before the Senate next week as the first time the Democrats will "tell the president, 'no!'"

"If I had been president in October of 2002, I would not have started this war," Clinton claimed.

However, her speech was nearly derailed by a handful of guests in attendance shouting "make it binding!" and "how about you bring them home."

Moments later, Clinton promised that, if the war hasn't ended by 2009 then "as president" she would do so.

Speaking on oil company profits, Clinton said "I want to take those profits, and I want to put them into a strategic energy fund."

"I am not running for president to put band aids on our problems," Clinton said.

EDIT: I didn't see/hear it, but I wouldn't call that heckling either. As I said in another thread, it seems that RawStory likes to post anti-Hillary things more that pro.

2. I watched her speech and just didn't hear any of the heckling
I totally missed it! If these things were indeed "shouted out" they weren't shouting loudly.

3. I watched it...
Far more uproarious applause for Hillary than any heckling...

In my opinion she did a very good job

New York Sen. Clinton says Iran a threat

By SAMANTHA GROSS, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 44 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Calling
Iran a danger to the U.S. and one of Israel's greatest threats, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said "no option can be taken off the table" when dealing with that nation.

But Clinton, a top 2008 Democratic presidential contender, also called for a dialogue with countries hostile to Israel — including Iran and Syria — as a way to promote peace in the Middle East.

"I have advocated engagement with our enemies and Israel's enemies," Clinton told a crowd of Israel supporters on Thursday. "I believe we can gain valuable knowledge and leverage from being part of a process again that enables us to get a better idea of how to take on and defeat our adversaries."

11. I think I heard it
but it was while the applause was just starting to die down after something she said. I heard some shouting, thought it was probably cheers but she was looking over from where it was coming from. I wouldn't have called it "heckling" though.

18. MSNBC is reporting she was heckled too...
I haven't been around to watch the news or the meeting on C-Span.. but I just turned on the tv and within the first 5 or so minutes, they mentioned that ..."Hillary Clinton was heckled by her own DNC members today"

Of course.. it was Tucker Calson who said it -- and I haven't seen any of it myself -- so I guess if it's true.. it will be on YouTube soon enough..

Everything winds up there sooner or later..

There was a lot of backgound noise during all the speeches, but no heckling.

9. If it is Friday then it must be time for the 50th I Hate Hillary thread of the week.
I don't care if she was heckled or not. I like the idea that people who disagree with someone can actually stand up in a meeting, jeer, boo and express his or herself without being hauled off in handcuffs. After six years of closed, vetted audiences, mamby pamby news coverage, drunk Kool Aid drinkers pretending to be "deep thinkers" I welcome the ruckus. I don't expect any Democratic candidate march in lock step with me on every issue - good grief that is tearing the Rethuglican party apart and I say let them have at it.

Hillary has a lot of good ideas, she has her head up her ass over others. But I will listen to her and Obama and John and Bill and Wesley and Vilsak and every other damn Democratic candidate until it is time to cast my vote in the primary.

Boo, heckle, listen quietly or clapped until the palms of your hands are sore - we have good candidates, they can stand the heat so I say let the fun begin. I get so fed up with this self-defeating, circle firing squad shit.

HRC Heckled During Her Speech

As Sen. Hillary Clinton, in her speech to the Democratic National Committee today, promised to end the war in Iraq as president, protestors from the anti-war group "Code Pink" stood up and shouted "End it Now! End it Now!"
