"Meet the Press" "Meet the Candidates" series starts Sunday, 2/4, with John Edwards
Media Bistro: Meet The Press Meets The Candidates

From the press release:

As the most-watched Sunday morning public affairs program in America and the longest-running television program in the world, "Meet the Press" has had proud history of presenting its viewers with the very best in-depth political coverage. This presidential election cycle will be no exception.

Starting this Sunday, February 4, 2007 and continuing throughout the presidential primary/caucus process, "Meet the Press" will present in-depth, live interviews with candidates running for the White House. The "Meet the Candidates" series kicks off on Sunday with 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate former Sen. John Edwards (D-NC). The exclusive interview will be conducted by moderator Tim Russert, and will originate live, from the NBC studios in Washington, D.C.

Said executive producer Betsy Fischer, "There is no other place in television where viewers can watch such serious, comprehensive and thorough questioning as they can on 'Meet the Press.' It's been dubbed the "Russert Primary," and it's a chance to really find out who these candidates are and what they believe."

For upcoming guests, please check weekly listings on the "Meet the Press" website at www.mtp.msnbc.com or sign up for the MTP free weekly newsletter online at www.mtp.msnbc.com.

Video of the series will be archived and available to watch on-demand at www.mtp.msnbc.com. In addition, viewers can watch the "Meet the Press Netcast" and download both an audio and video podcast every Sunday after 1 PM ET....

2. THE MEDIA DECIDES........
although they will at least give us a choice from the three or four they have come up with.

They are afterall, a generous bunch!

Also interesting to see what the 08' candidates are saying now. What a three ring circus we've got so far.

FrenchieCat, I think we should petition them to get Clark on there ;)

That'd be an interesting show!

4. Wes has got to throw his hat in the ring first.....
and the hill is certainly a tall one to climb, considering that the media really has already decided who they will be highlighting and providing free media to.

We shall see if as Obama stated in his DNC speech,......this primary process isn't simply just an American Idol show!

Thus far, I see it as just that.

5. The media will want it to an American Idol show.
Which is why when I watch MSNBC or CNN, I turn the channel when they talk about 2008. It's all about Obama and Hillary, with the slight appearance of Edwards.

If Clark does the work in New Hampshire, Iowa, and the other early primary states....I don't think it'll matter how much the media talks about whose leading the national polls. The national polls aren't deciding our nominee. And neither is the media!!

7. True...but unfortunately the media has some influence.....
and it really depends on how front loaded the states are this year.

Putting California close to Iowa and NH will signal an end to even the last refuge of the underdogs; and the beginning of total media rule over our elections! :(

6. It will be interesting to see who Timmy is nice to and who he is hateful to. He should have to ask
the exact same question to every candidate. I can't stand him after the way he treated Howard Dean.
