Waiting to enter race may cost Hagel

BY ROBYNN TYSVER
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney of Massachusetts raked in $6.5 million in a one-day fundraiser last month in Boston.

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, a possible GOP contender, stockpiled $1.4 million in the final weeks of 2006.

Even Democrat Tom Vilsack, little known outside his home state of Iowa, raised $1.1 million late last year.

Sen. Chuck Hagel

Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, who has the political world buzzing about a possible presidential campaign, has yet to declare his intentions. And, unlike some of his potential rivals, he has yet to raise any money for a presidential bid.

3. Hagel's playing it smart
Sitting back and coopting the issues.

He'll end up being sold as some sort of statesman- while the others (including the "front running" Dems) will end up looking like whores.

5. Compared to the 2004 Why is the upcoming 2008 election being treated as
if it was two months away instead of two years?(well 1 year and 10 months) The way the pundits and other so called experts talk there is little need to even hold a primary as far the Democratic nominee. Then they talk about their favorite repub, etc. Are voters really interested in this BS this early..The media must think so.

6. Chuck Hagel is going to have a tough time raising money.

Rudolph Giuliani knows how to charm the pants off Republican fat cats.

Sen. Chuch Hagel..................... Henry Gibson

Coincidence?

Anyone with a police record that long is going to make a mistake. I want all party members in the tri-state district to monitor the city, county, and state police on their CB's. Sooner or later, Mr. Elwood Blues is gonna fuck up and when he does... he'd better pray that the police get to him before we do.

8. If Romney can raise over $6.5 million in one day
then it shouldn't be too hard to play catch up. He just needs somebody smart running the campaign.
