Hillary: If you don’t like her don’t vote for her.
I am just tired of hearing how bad she is etc.

I am not a huge fan of hers in fact I am not huge fan of any of the potential candidates they all have their pluses and minuses.

If she wins the nomination and that makes you ill then either vote Republican, third party or just stay home.

7. third party
If the only "True Peace Candidate" was represented in a third party - well , then I would have to vote what is right and moral --- not what is Democratic. I will not vote for any war monger .... or war supporter.

36. More power to you
I admire people who vote principle.
But, I will point out...
The republikkan candidate will likely be a HUGE war supporter -- maybe even support attacking Iran and Syria. Then you get someone worse on the war issue.
In addition, with Justice Stevens being so old and at least one other member contemplating retirement that means the President will likely get at least 2 Justices on the US Supreme Court -- Scalia, Thomas and Roberts will have, at minimum, two new buddies giving them the majority on issues like abortion, the rights of suspects in trials (Padilla anyone?), etc.
You could conceivable get another President with the same attitude toward relations with foreign governments that this one has.

For my money, morality and what is right are broader issues than just what is going on in Iraq. There are serious social and economic ills in this country and in other parts of the world that are as, if not more important than Iraq.

39. Huge War Monger vs. a Softer Gentler war
so maybe the choice is going to be between the Republic candidate, who is a "HUGE" war monger, and maybe some Democratic candidate who happens to be not quite as "HUGE" in her war promotion. Maybe the DNC will pick us a candidate who will sell us a softer/gentler war

I want someone who wants "PEACE" ..... not death

8. So....what do we talk about on this political msg board?
Seems like a discussion of the various candidates' positions on issues should be a staple of a board like DU.

Would this new rule only apply to Hillary Clinton, or all dem candidates?

9. won't vote repub, but don't think Hillary or Obama have a chance;
The rednecks will out vote you in the south. Feel that the Dem candidate will be a "dark horse" and will be a centrist, Reagan Democrat if you will ( please don't slam me for that). Maybe Webb? But what do I know?...It's a long way off. and the money isn't lined up as of yet.

19. I'm with you on that one;
But the redneck chant is "no women, no blacks"....Unfortunatly the population centers are now in the south and thus the electoral votes. That's the reality! Maybe Edwards or Webb , if he keeps gaining traction in the media? I do feel that Hillary is being pushed on us by MSM and they are not pro-Dem. However , if she does get the nomination , I will vote for her.

22. "Unfortunatly the population centers are now in the south ..."
"and thus the electoral votes."

I've read a couple of article lately that read to the contrary.

If those articles are true (and who can predict the future) the Dems can win without the South.

Upon reflection, this post would sure carry more weight if I could at least mention the titles of said articles.

Oh well.

30. Fine - or are you too naive to realize that urban centers in the South,
just like everywhere, vote blue?

Did you know the CITY of Knoxville, TN is Democratic, even if the county of Knox is Republican? Did you know that Little Rock, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Raleigh and ALL those CITIES vote blue?

Or do you buy into the stupid red/blue maps?

I repeat: it's a rural vs. urban thing, not a North vs. South thing. ALL STATES ARE PURPLE!!!

33. The South will carry more weight after 2010
After the new census comes out states like NY and MA are projected to lose several House seats and electoral votes to Southern states like FL and GA due to population growth in the South while the Northeast has been stagnant.

34. could be;
I know that the cities in the south are full of transplanted people from the north. My son lives in Va. and had a verbal conflict with an ole south co-worker over Webb vs Allen. He told her Webb won because many of the people in Va. are transplanted northerners who are sick of still fighting the civil war. Not an expert, but feel the argument holds water.

from up North bring it up.

We simply don't talk about it as much as people up North think we do.

If you really want to change the voting attitudes of the South, do two things:

A.) Stop trying to force us to be like the North. We're not. And when you do, we become defensive and do the opposite of what you say. Sure, it's like a little child, but it's just machismo. There's really nothing more to it. For example, I honestly contend that the Battle Flag of the Confederacy wouldn't be flown over several state capitals if Northerners hadn't come down here and told us we COULDN'T. Silly, yes, but I can see why a group of adults wouldn't want to be told what to do.

B.) Get us some decent media down here. I can't get AAR unless I want to pay for satellite and folks down here don't want to have to do that. We're inundated with Faux and Rush and Hannity. No alternatives.

43. Um, if that was true, Dems would win every statewide and national election
by a 4-1 margin. Turns out, according to the 2000 census, 80% of Americans live in urban areas, only 20% rural. I had no idea the number was so high, but there you go.

Many in the south have had enough of the Bushsh*t, and although they don't verbally speak out, they may vote for a centrist Democrat. Have nothing to back it up, just a gut feeling.

Ohio's trending blue, big-time. Republicans suffered a rout there last year. Plus, OH now has a Dem Sec'y of State, so we'll at least be in the ball-park in terms of an honest vote count.

No Dem will win a state that Wallace won anytime soon (except for AR)
I think NC, SC and TN will be near impossible, even with Edwards on the ticket.

http://electoral-vote.com/

This map will give you a good idea of where we have potential pickups:
NV, CO, NM (Richardson would easily win NM)
IO, MO, AR (Clark would help here, not sure about HRC)
OH, FL and VA (Warner would win this if he was on the ticket)

However, Dean's 50 state strategy was great, so it doesn't hurt to try.
