In case you're unaware of George Galloway...
Edited on Fri Feb-09-07 06:39 PM by Esra Star
Here's a typical speech on the floor of the House of Commons.

Right at the end he predicts Tony Blair's criminal trial.

4. What party is Galloway in now?
I thought he was Labour when he served years ago but when he was just elected more recently (like last 4 years or so), it was with a different affiliation.

6. I'm not sure. The name "Respect" seems to be at least part
of it.

7. He is a member of RESPECT
a combination of left wing socialist parties and anti-war groups. He is a great independant voice in Britian..much like Bernie Sanders here. Except I think Galloway is an even more left wing socialist than Sanders.

8. He rebelled against the Labour leadership, was expelled from the party, and started his own
anti-war party called "Respect". He then defeated a sitting Labour MP, who had voted for the war in Iraq.

Though there are many different views on the subject, Galloway is not on the whole respected as much by British left-wingers as he is on the American left. We like his anti-war message; but he seems to spend too much time doing publicity stunts like going on Celebrity Big Brother, and too little time in the House of Commons. He's also supported some rather dodgy dictators in his time, though the same could be said of most politicians who've had any power.

There are a number of people here who think Blair should be tried for war crimes, as well as possibly for pettier offences like involvement in the sale of peerages. Channel 4 showed a play about "The Trial of Tony Blair" recently. There is also a longstanding effort, led by Alex Salmond a Scottish Nationalist MP, to impeach Blair for lies and illegal actions over Iraq. This will not happen (although impeachment is technically still possible in Britain, it hasn't been actually used in 200 years); but the efforts are probably an embarrassment for Blair.

10. Out of interest which dictator/s did he support ?
and what was the form of that support?
Are there any links?
I am aware that he does get in close to some characters, but I
thought it was more as a mediator.
I really loved it when he ripped Norm Coleman to shreds.
Normy certainly would never again give him a platform.
