Wesley Clark winning voters on the campaign trail
"Do you make the doughnuts right here?" he (Clark) asks the cashier at the Dunkin' Donuts.

"No."

"So how do they get here?"

"A truck. "

-snip-

As a presidential candidate Clark now finds himself in the chilly vestibule of the Fraser Papers mill in far northern New Hampshire, on a concrete floor sloppy with slush, virtually begging the shift workers to talk to him.

"Hi, I'm Wesley Clark and I'd like to ask for your vote."

"Hi, I'm Wes . . .

"You have kids?"

"Want a doughnut? Coffee? We have coffee!"

The men are clocking in for the 7:30 a.m. shift. They walk in and out, alone or in pairs. Almost all are armored in thick coats and gloves, some wearing safety glasses and hard hats. "I'm real late," says one. "My boss . . . " he starts, and then drifts off. "I'm a Gephardt guy," yells another as he swings open the door, sending a gust of frigid wind straight up into the nostrils.

When someone does stop, Clark bores in: "You married? Children? Any health issues?" "I gotta go," David Carey finally says, and Clark follows him out the door into the muddy snow, holding out a fistful of campaign brochures.

-snip-

1. Pretty good..
Starts off quite negative, and then finishes on a rather positive note. Interesting read, I suppose.

7. I read the article and find it to be a positive article about Clark
despite that title. I got a good impression of Wesley Clark after reading it. I forget what a pleasant and articulate guy he is after spending a day reading bitter and nasty posts by his supporters here at DU trashing other candidates, mainly the frontrunner. His supporters on here turn me off to him so badly I probably don't give him the chance that I should.

9. and vice versa
I find SOME Dean people really off-putting. It has gotten so I can't stand Dean, even though at one time, I thought he was great.

8. Good article... shows what I've been seeing all along
While he is a neophyte politician, no doubt, he is a very smart man and a very quick study. He's learning on the job. Clearly. He already possesses the leadership qualities. He just doesn't have the politician thing down yet, which in some ways I kind of like.
