Mature Women Support Hillary
I am a Hillary supporter, and I considered myself a mature woman until meeting the dynamic 80 and 90+ year old women who also reside in a rural 55+ apartment complex where I live. These women remember World War II the way I recall the Viet Nam struggle, have raised families, outlived husbands, flown airplanes, sold real estate, lived on boats, taught school, nursed the sick and wounded, and know a good thing when they see it. They support Hillary Clinton.

:woohoo:

1. Not to be rude...
But your headline should be "A Couple of Mature Women in My Rural 55+ Apartment Complex Where I Live Support Hillary Clinton". It wouldn't surprise me if they support Clinton. Perhaps they want to see a woman President in their lifetime. Clinton is a decent Democratic candidate. But you really can't say mature women support Hillary without citing a poll or something like that. Or perhaps more stories about mature women even.

But yeah, you go with that.

Could you expand on, "But yeah, you go with that."

10. Feel free to tell people that
but don't be surprised if they ask for more info. I mean I talked to a couple of young men, old men, old women, young women, children, and they all supported Obama. You don't see me going around saying "Everyone supports Obama".

28. Mature Women Support Hillary is an accurate subject .
Women meant more than one woman, the last time I looked it up. Could you write less personalized responses?

2. And how does that tie into being in support of Clinton?
I don't get it..and am a mature woman as well...and no way do I support Hillary. I sincerely hope she doesn't get the nomination.

So, am honestly wondering...how does all that you mentioned tie to being in support of Hillary? What has Clinton got to do with all the things you mentioned, and how does that make her a "good thing"?

Not argumentative.

13. But the post stated all sorts of descriptors that are supposed to somehow
connect to being in support of Hillary. So, what am I missing here?

connect to the women who support Hillary.

7. Good question, leftstreet.
However, I did not put quotes around "good thing," and did not intend to imply they said it. The word choice was mine. I will investigate and get back with some answers in a day or two.

I'd be interested to know why "senior" women (my quotes) support Hillary.

31. LOL.
I spoke with one woman today, leftstreet, and asked her your question.

She said that she and other women she knows who are 80+ have lived through the civil rights movement, the womens rights movement, and moved out into the world, often to support themselves and their families, and have an appreciation for what it takes for a woman to get to where Hillary Clinton is.

She said that Hillary has the experience and competence to make a very good President.

When I told her about the response to my original post, she said, "I thought people who posted on that board were Democrats."

I said, they are but they really go at it in support of their personal choice for the nomination.

20. You know what those elderly people would probably tell you if you asked them?
They'd probably tell you that they don't have to give you any reasons why they like or don't like someone. I've had older people tell me that more than once, not about Hillary, just about someone they happened to like or dislike...when questioned as to why. "I just like them. THAT'S why!"

11. I am a "mature woman" and I don't support Hillary
If I were to want more of the same--perpetual war--I would support Hillary, who has taken no firm stand at all against it and who in fact seems to thrive on being noncommittal and issuing spineless "ultimatums" that amount to telling * he better get the troops out of Iraq by the time he leaves office "or else." Hillary has shown ZERO leadership on this issue and seems to have no problem cozying up to corporatists. I consider her a Trojan Horse who is hardly better than her repuke counterparts at watching out for GE's interests over those of We The People.

Neither do my mother or her sisters - all in their 80s (I guess that makes them super mature).

15. Many of my lesbian friends are also crazy about Hillary running, BUT...
they are totally ignorant about Hillary's stand on the critical issues facing us. For example, they don't know about Hillary's lukewarm support for LGBT rights, she is still "evolving" on marriage rights. They don't know about Hillary's rubbing elbows with the Right-to-Life wackos that want to take our reproductive rights away. They don't know about Hillary's prowar stance, not only on Iraq, but on Syria and Iran as well (she supports regime change).

When I was a child I was very excited about women running for President, Margaret Chase Smith and Shirley Chisholm come particularly to mind. But I am long past puberty now, and I want for President the best man or woman candidate that can extricate us from Iraq and from the straitjacket we created for ourselves in the Middle East. Hillary is NOT that candidate.

27. Very well said, IG
I consider myself a "mature" woman (several years past 50) and I can remember wanting a woman president SO bad. And back in the '70s, when I first voted, I'd have probably been sure we'd have one by now, almost 35 years later.

Well, I still want a woman president, but I'll just have to wait a little longer because our first woman president will NOT be Hillary Clinton. And being "mature," I find I am willing to wait. Like you say, it's more important that we get a Democrat in the White House, and one who's willing and able to fix the mess that Bush will leave.

I have spoken to a number of women, of various ages but especially among professional women, and many of them are ga-ga for Hillary. But when you talk to them, they know nothing about politics, polls, the issues, etc. They are driven purely by their perceptions of how she's tough and smart and married to Bill. They see in her and in her chances ONLY what they want to see, not what's really there.

19. I am a mature woman
I'm a professional and I live in a rural area, and I do not support Hillary's candidacy. Personally, I like her (I've met her), but she is too far to the right to suit me, and too tied to the corporate wing of the party. If she gets the nomination, I will support her, but I'd sure rather see someone else - like Al Gore, if he runs.

I'll hold my nose and vote for her in the general election if I have to, but she's way down toward the bottom of my list. I'd love to see a good progressive woman candidate, but Hillary isn't the one, IMO.
