I assume Reagan will (eventually) be on the new dollar coin.
Just as long as he Never replaces FDR on the dime.

After Washington, the presidents honored this year will be John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. The program is scheduled to run into 2016. A president must have been dead at least two years to appear on a coin.

1. Argh!
I really really really don't like your assumption there.

Can we hope that more Americans will have realized how truly awful Reagan really was by the time he's eligible?

Ugh... just yuck!

2. Worse....The chimp will be one day, perhaps.
We must stop this coin.

I would be arrested for hurling my change back at the cashier, repeatedly.

3. If he does, it's no big deal.
The government has released dollar coins before and they always fall out of circulation because no one ever uses them. In fact, they just did it a few years back...

Even if Reagan appears on the new coins, they'll disappear in a few years and it'll just be one more failure for the ol' Gipper.

11. I use them all the time
We have vending machines at work that accept the dollar coins. I also bring them home to give to the grandkids, they love em!

They'll probably make the new ones a different size and screw up the vending machine industry!

16. you're right about the vending machines.
I lived in NYC for years, and the only time I'd ever see the coins was if vending machines dispensed them as change. Then I'd have dollar coins that cashiers wouldn't accept because they didn't know what the coins were.

They basically functioned as vending-machine-only currency and curios.

9. I would think by 2016...
...they'd be able to make space for Ford and Reagan. And not to be morbid, but I think the chances are pretty good we'll have lost at least one more President by then.

21. $2 bad luck ?
what the hell are you talking about?

People keep them because they believe they are good luck, rare, etc.

Please do not suggest putting Reagan on the $2. What a disgrace that would be to Thomas Jefferson, and the signers of the DOI.
If you want to put Reagan's face on anything, it should go on Food Stamps.

Cheers
Drifter

This is a way to make money by selling money. A load of folks will buy these coins and never circulate them.

20. Not sure about that ...
There is ambiguity as to whether Reagan will make it onto the new dollar coin.

In order for a president to appear on the coin, they must be dead for 2 years.
The Presidential coin will be minted until all eligible presidents are represented, then they will stop.

There is nothing (ie ambiguity) about whether a President will be skipped if they do not meet eligibility (and there are subsequent Presidents who do meet eligibility).
For example, does Carter have to be eligible (ie he dies by 2014), in order for Reagan to be eligible.

I have seen this interpreted both ways. I believe that right now coins are planned up to and including Nixon. This seems to suggest that the last coin will be Nixon, unless Carter does in fact die by 2014.

Cheers
Drifter

Since Ronnie was pretty much incapable of independent thought the last couple years
he occupied the White House. She called the shots, no doubt in my mind.
