Two-thirds of those questioned oppose cutting money for the troops and 60 percent are against cutting money intended just for the additional troops.

Nearly half of Democrats oppose cutting money for the additional troops and almost two-thirds of those who know someone who has served in Iraq oppose that idea.

How does this impact Democratic strategy going forward? What do you think should be the "next move" of the Congress? (I realize this will depend on how the situation changes...or does not change, going forward).

1. They need to legally de-authorize the war...
it is subject to veto, but it can't be turned around as not supporting the troops.

3. Can fund certain things and refuse to fund others?
Like maybe continue supplying troops there, but refuse to fund the expense of sending additional troops? I'm obviously ignorant of how to avoid putting the troops in danger by not providing necessary items for protection and support. Anyone know?

6. Fox poll says the opposite, Americans oppose funding for surge
Fox News Poll: Majority Of Americans Would Vote To Defund Escalation
By Eric Kleefeld |

http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/feb/15/fox_news_poll_americans_would_vote_to_de_fund_escalation

Here are some numbers to consider for Dems who fear getting attacked for
cutting off funding for the "surge": A new poll finds that an
astonishing 54% of Americans would vote to cut off funding for
escalation if they were in Congress. What's more, the new poll was done
by Fox News. The survey asked: "If you were a member of Congress, how
would you vote specifically on increasing U.S. troop levels in Iraq —
would you vote for or against funding the increase in troops?" Only 37%
said they would vote for funding. Among Independents, the numbers were
even more striking: 62% were against funding, and only 30% for funding.
If Congressional Democrats do move to defund escalation, a majority of
Americans would be on their side.

14. Right. Murtha found exactly the right tactic---simply making the troops ready does the trick
After all, the main problem with the surge is that it will overwhelm the personnel on the ground, stretch them too thin and wear them out until they start making fatal errors--either killing some civilians needlessly or getting killed themselves.

10. gee maybe the poll asked a deliberately slanted question.
It is not about cutting off funds for 'the troops' it is about cutting off funds for 'the war'.

The again the article cited does not actually print the question asked.

11. Here's the important part of the poll
"WASHINGTON - President Bush faces widespread opposition to the troop buildup in Iraq, though he has gained support over the past month, an AP-Ipsos poll found.

The president has nudged support for the troop increase to 35 percent from 26 percent in early January. Sixty-three percent of those surveyed still oppose the increase.

The increased support came from some of Bush's core supporters -- Republicans, men, whites, suburbanites and people with higher incomes."

As for the other stat -- probably a heavily slanted question:

Like:

1) I want to join the Terrorists
2) I am an appeaser
3) I won't give the troops a dime
4) I oppose cutting money for the 'surge'

Which statement most closely represents your views: 1, 2, 3, or 4
