Watching Hillary Clinton in the wind.

Clinton urges start of Iraq pullout in 90 days

By Jim Wolf 58 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Sen.Hillary Rodham Clinton, the early front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, has called for a 90-day deadline to start pulling American troops from Iraq.

Clinton, the wife of former President Bill Clinton, has been criticized by some Democrats for supporting authorization of the war in 2002 and for not renouncing her vote as she seeks the U.S. presidency in next year's election.

"Now it's time to say the redeployment should start in 90 days or the Congress will revoke authorization for this war," the New York senator said in a video on her campaign Web site, repeating a point included in a bill she introduced on Friday.

Snip...

At a January 17 news conference after visiting Iraq, Clinton repeated her call for a phased redeployment as a way of pressing the Iraqi government to shoulder more responsibility for security. But she stopped short then of proposing a deadline for doing so.

2. This sounds like Dennis Kucinich
four years ago.

Unfortunately for her, those who are strongly opposed to the war aren't going to take her seriously as a peace candidate. Other voters will see this as another flip-flop from a political opportunist.

What we have right now is a two-way race between Obama and Edwards.

5. Flip'flop? How? for 3 years she has been critical, for last year saying re-deploy but with

no deadline for total withdrawal. This is same position she has had for last year.

Obama is for "total withdrawal" in a year - except for those re-deployed!

Seems positions have not changed all that much by anyone for at least the last year.

Dennis, Edwards, and Vislack are the out now point men - the rest more or less have the same position. Or am I missing something? The last is quite possible as I have been following only Vislack, Obama, Clinton, Edwards and Dennis - and God knows my memory is not what it should be.

7. Yes, I'm sure "she hasn't changed positions for over a year!"
will work well with swing voters. Maybe the Hillary campaign can make a sign that says something like "375 days without Iraq war flip-flops." If we learned anything from Kerry it should be that equivocation does not attract swing voters.

All the Republicans will have to do is point out that she voted for the war and was a big supporter until it become unpopular. Nothing else she says about Iraq will matter or be listened to by most voters because of that.

Of course, the article points out that Hillary has refused to talk about timetables for withdrawal until now, so this is a change.

4. LOL Clinton's re-deploy in 90 days is topped within hours by Obama out by 5/1
So do we start the re-deploy May 1, or 90 days?

Why can't those Dem's have a unified position! :-)
