Battle Of The Right-Wing Stink Bombs
The jury's still out on the winner of this week's battle of the right-wing stink bombs, but liberal bloggers and clever DUers have been busy sniffing out the worst of the worst (with honors, sir) and causing White House-sanctioned sphincters to tighten even more than usual. Remember, if you can smell it, a right-winger dealt it. Don your gasmasks and enjoy!

Victoria Toensing Stinks!

Thank goodness, we have Larry Johnson to set Mrs. Joe diGenova straight:

Congratulations to Victoria Toensing, former Reagan Administration Justice Department official, for plumbing new depths of delusion and crazed fantasies in her latest Washington Post op-ed. Ms. Toensing's piece--Trial in Error--should have been titled, "I Am Ignorant of Basic Facts." She offers up two special gems:

* Valerie Plame was not covert.
* Ambassador Joseph Wilson (Valerie's husband) misled the public about how he was sent to Niger, about the thrust of his March 2003 oral report of that trip, and about his wife's CIA status

Valerie Plame was undercover until the day she was identified in Robert Novak's column. I entered on duty with Valerie in September of 1985. Every single member of our class--which was comprised of Case Officers, Analysts, Scientists, and Admin folks--were undercover. I was an analyst and Valerie was a case officer. Case officers work in the Directorate of Operations and work overseas recruiting spies and running clandestine operations. Although Valerie started out working under "official cover"--i.e., she declared she worked for the U.S. Government but in something innocuous, like the State Department--she later became a NOC aka non official cover officer. A NOC has no declared relationship with the United States Government. These simple facts apparently are too complicated for someone of Ms. Toensing's limited intellectual abilities.

Read the rest. Larry was just getting warmed up in those opening paragraphs. And if you agree that Victoria Toensing stinks, here's a stinky blast from the recent rightwing stink bomb past...

Jeff Gannon Still Stinks!

Crooks and Liars caught BushCo's favorite paid porno escort shill sitting in the audience at this week's National Press Club Round Table. Oh, and C & L asks readers to supply their own captions. Go for it!

Hm. Gannon still looks smug, self-loving, and seriously stinky. Remember his military macho poses on his porno escort website? To quote Dustin Hoffman in Wag The Dog, "That was nothing." There's a much, much stinkier place than ol' Jeff Gannon's website...

Walter Reed Stinks!

Did Bush Know about the conditions inside Building 18? Naturally, Bush knew that conditions at Walter Reed Hospital were... um, stinky. Tony Snow said so. From Think Progress:

Transcript:

QUESTION: You responded to me a moment ago that the administration was aware of this before the articles appeared in the paper.

SNOW: That is my understanding.

Bush stinks! But you knew that already. Read the rest of the transcript to find out how Tony Snowjob backtracked on his initial response. It really stinks.

Sometimes Even Duds Stink To High Heaven

Especially when Condoleezza Rice is in the room. Truthdig explains the real meaning behind Rice's description of her chat with Olmert and Abbas as "useful and productive" actually ended with "no new agreements." This one's a real stinker that went absolutely nowhere. But then, what else is new in Bushcoville?

Finkelstein's Flatulent Fabrications... um, Stink!

Conwebwatch has busted NewsBusters, big time. Jeez, reading Finkelstein makes you realize how a graduate of the Ann Coulter School of Journalism would operate. Here are just a few of Finkelstein's sphincter eliminations:

· He sniped at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a Jan. 27 post: "Did anyone really believe that Nancy Pelosi's recent whirlwind visit to Iraq was truly the 'fact-finding' mission she billed it to be? I doubt it."
· After noting that Barack Obama earned a college major in political science with a specialization in international relations, Finkelstein sniped in a Jan. 24 post: "What kind of world-view do you think was inculcated in international-relations major Obama at hyper-liberal Columbia?"
· In a Jan. 23 post, Finkelstein got alliteratively snide, asserting that Hillary Clinton engaged in "meretricious mirth" and "feigned frivolity" and declared that "Hillary gets way too much credit for winning" her Senate seat in New York because "registered Dems outnumber Republicans by 2 million, and Hillary ran first against a 'C'-list opponent and then against a virtual non-entity who didn't really bother to campaign."

Yuckity yuck yuck yuck, y'all. "Way too much credit for winning" is my personal favorite. Like I said in the beginning, the jury's still out, but...

Scooter Libby Stinks!

Summation day in the Libby perjury/obstruction of justice trial finally arrived this week, but the best summation comes from Christy Hardin Smith at firedoglake:

Some things are just wrong. Period.

This was wrong. It was fundamentally wrong, for our nation, for our national security, and for the way business ought to be done by the supposed adults who are charged with keeping our nation safe, and not just with saving their own political bacon and trafficking in gossip and innuendo and carefully crafted leaks when it suits their political payback purposes. And for political operatives and craven power junkies like Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, who have made their lives and their business running over top of anyone who got in their way because they could, this was, truly, the last straw. That this was done by the highest reaches of power in the Bush Administration - the very people who should be guarding our nation's national security secrets the closest - was truly the last straw.

It is time that people in Washington took a good, long, hard look at themselves - and asked a fundamental question: am I here to serve myself or the public's interest? Because if the answer is (a), you are now on notice - we are not backing down or going away quietly once this one trial has concluded. If you will not provide oversight and accountability on behalf of all of the public and not just your cronies, we will do so. If you will not stand up for what is right, we will.

No wonder bloggers are drawing fire from all sides lately. Way to go, Christy! By the way, to read all of FDL's Libby trial posts, click on over to Multi Media Netroots. Each individual link is listed in order. By the way, Scooter isn't the only person stinking up the office of the vice president...

Dick Cheney Stinks!

Sometimes a single blog post deserves printing and filing for posterity. Case in point, Emptywheel (at FDL) has crafted the best Plame Timeline I've read to date. And the indictment of Tricky Dick Cheney is as precise as a surgeon's scapel work in this post.

It's Called "Fair Use," Stinky Asshats!

Waaambulance alert! the RNC is whining because Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, is posting C-Span excerpts of House speeches on her blog. Kos sets the wingnuts straight.

Update: The RNC now says, "My bad. C-Span doesn't own the copyright to the House floor footage. Oops. Look over there! Those nasty Dems are undermining the president's authority to wage unending war!" Which brings us to...

Republicans Who Hate The Troops Stink!

If Dems really want to explain their Iraq war resolution to the six remaining Bush supporters in the country, they should revisit Bob Dole's 1995 anti-Clinton troop deployment to Bosnia screed. (Hat tip to NormaR for the link!).

Where There's Stinky, There's Also Sweet

Kudos To Colorado Blog! Blogger Wendy Morris reports that Colorado Confidential, the blog that began by reporting that a GOP fundraiser (with Ann Coulter) raised no money, is being honored during this year's Colorado Society of Professional Journalists annual Mark of Excellence awards.

Congrats, Colorado Confidential!

So Easy, Even A CaveFreeper Could Understand!

Blogger http://www.wellingtongrey.net/miscellanea/archive/2007-02-18%20--%20what%20would%20george%20w%20bush%20do.html">Wellington Grey's fan base is growing by leaps and bounds. Maybe this is why:

Now, wasn't that easy, Freepers?

Who's That Soledad O'Brien Clone?

Why, it's a FOX Snooze escapee named Kiran Chetry, who started work at CNN the day after getting the ax from FOX. Media Bistro (at TV Newser) has the link to her nasty-assed pink slip letter. Well worth the read, but one has to wonder: Why did CNN hire her away from FAUXSnooze? Anyone know why?

Smart, Succinct, & Scooterrific!

Need a smartly written summary of Scooter's defense? Check out H2O Man's Journal. It's all in there. All there was, that is. If you could call it a defense... for (gulp) $5 million dollars. Maybe Scooter won't be so supportive of massive corporate profits anymore after his legal bill arrives. For the Cliff's Notes version of Scooter's defense, no one does it better than Buzzflash (Scooter's "Chronic Amnesia"):

Libby has obviously decided to take the White House down with him though his scapegoat defense. We have certainly learned much about Bush Administration corruption through testimony about how top officials scrambled to reveal a CIA agent's identify to cover up their misleading use of intelligence. But now we learn they kept a man in one of the highest positions in the executive branch who - by the admission of Libby's own case - apparently could hardly remember his own name.

Thanks to The Sneeze for inspiring this week's column title! Since I'm thanking bloggers...

Thank A DUer!

Thanks to Solly Mack for explaining FOX "News" to me.

my husband calls Fox news a sitcom

he says that's the only way it makes any sense...inmates took over the asylum and turned the building into a news room, where the patients now deliver the news from their skewed perspective of reality, and the public has yet to catch on

Makes perfect sense to me.

Finally, thanks to K8-EEE for this post:

What's Sadder Than Republicans Trying To Be Funny?

LOL, this FR thread is a classic....Freeps try to analyze why the FauxNews Daily Show rip-off isn't funny. Although some insist IT IS FUNNY BECAUSE IT'S THE 'TRUTH', LOL.) Some Freepers insist there is NO LAUGH TRACK and they KNOW this to be true because they SAW A LIVE AUDIENCE!

A couple come up with their own ideas for hilarious skits like this one:

"I'll tell you what would be FUnnie. A leftwing couple are in their home watching all the coverage of the Anna Nicole Smith death. You know they are liberal because their walls are covered with all sorts of BDS (Bush Derangement Syndrome) posters. They watch the news reports for about a minute. Then one turns to the other and says, 'Bush's fault!'"

Hm. The freeper who penned that idea is a real wit. Or at least half of one.

Sweet posts this week, DUers!

Merely shining a light on the stinky residue of rightwingers won't make them stop emitting their stinky smears. After all, that's their stinky stock in trade. What say we, liberals? Shall we continue to make their sphincters tighten? The ayes have it.
