Kucinich does not qualify for matching funds?
First, is this true? It was referred to on CSPAN this morning...does anyone have a link to a story that confirms or denies this?

Second, if this is true, how is it possible? Kucinich's money comes predominately from people who give less than $250, which is the amount that the feds fund....

So to boil it all down...i'm confused as to how this could have happened.....

please help...and let's not flame each other....

I castigate my fellow Dean supporters who would try ahead of time...I respect Rep. Kucinich and am actually sad if this is true....there is only one candidate who I want to see do badly (Joe) and Dennis would not be one of them....not even close....

I hope that this is not true...

2. somebody's mistake
they might have meant Dean who spared no time in breaking a campaign pledge to qualify and so forth. Kucinich is in fine shape.

Kucinich qualifies for matching funds

The Federal Election Commission has declared US Representative Dennis J. Kucinich of Ohio qualified to receive federal matching funds, making the Ohio congressman eligible for up to $18.6 million, the FEC said yesterday. Candidates must meet FEC requirements to qualify, including raising a threshold amount of $100,000 by collecting $5,000 in 20 different states in amounts no greater than $250. They also must agree, among other things, to an overall spending limit and abide by spending limits in each state. (AP)

4. I wonder if he has to re-qualify every quarter
because I know he qualified back in June, too.

6. Thanks everyone...
I know I didn't hear it wrong...cause I looked at my wife when I heard it and she repeated it....

I wonder if he was referring to the fact that some states allow candidates on the ballot if they receiving matching funds...there was a story that he didn't get on the Delaware ballot missed by 73 names and the campaign was waiting for word from the FEC about matching funds....

http://www.delawareonline.com/newsjournal/local/2003/12/24kucinich,braunf.html

Otherwise, perhaps we should contact CSPAN about that gaff and make them state a retraction....

7. He's on the Delaware ballot.
Missed getting on it by petition by a few signatures, but is on it by virtue of qualifying for federal matching funds!!

Delawarians will get their opportunity to vote for the best candidate!!

8. FEC announced two days ago that Kucinich qualified for matching funds
I find it odd the number of posts that refer to something being said on C-SPAN as Gospel true. I would make a point of ignoring whatever the callers say, much of which is crap they hear on RW radio.

Do a DU search to find the threads that were posted here within the last week about Dennis qualifying for matching funds.

I castigate my fellow Dean supporters who would try ahead of time

Why the Dean red herring? Dean has nothing to do with matching funds, and neither does Kerry.

Are you really trying to find out about Dennis's matching funds, or is this another feeble attempt to smear another candidate or his supporters. How un-Kucinich of you if that is the case.

9. huh?!
First of all...it was the moderator on CSPAN who said that Kucinich didn't qualify....that didn't sound right to me so I went to DU and posted this, because I knew that Kucinich supporters would know if this was true....

And it would alert Kucinich supporters that information was put out that was wrong....

Second, the reference to Dean supporters had nothing to do with Kucinich or his supporters, but it was directed toward those who, like I support Dean, who can not allow an opportunity to pass without slamming a candidate like it is some kind of testosterone contest...I wanted this thread to be about the things I originally stated....

1) Was it true...
2) If it was, how did this happen....

reading comprehension is a wonderful thing!

11. It was odd, though, and left a question hanging in most

viewers' minds. I think. I was thinking, "Wait a minute, what did he say? He made it or he didn't? I know he did make it but that was damn confusing." DK got a big surge in donations just before this quarter's end. (Actually, when did it end? Why not December 31, the logical date?)

15. Thanks for posting this. I have seen confusion elsewhere

about whether or not Kucinich has qualified for federal matching funds. It occurred to me earlier today to ask myself if some people are deliberately trying to make it seem that DK's campaign is in trouble. Before anyone dismisses that as just tinfoil, consider how often we see a search for truth painted as "conspiracy theory."

And remember what FDR said:
"In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, it was planned."

Thanks for caring about Dennis staying in the race, and also for asking your fellow Dean supporters to refrain from hijacking the thread. I think we can discuss our opinions about the merits of candidates without hijacking threads. There is too much oneupsmanship at DU, whether or not it's testosterone-induced. I think all you were saying was,

"Give peace a chance." :hippie:

14. link to qualifcation for matching funds story ....
Kucinich to appear on primary ballot

<<The staff of Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, late Wednesday sent Democratic Party officials and state election officials notice that his campaign qualified for federal matching funds, qualifying Kucinich for the state's Feb. 3 presidential primary.

The campaign came up short in its drive to put Kucinich, a former Cleveland mayor, on the ballot through petitions, but state law requires political parties to add candidates by Jan. 7 who qualify for federal matching funds.

"The issue never really was in doubt, it just took longer than we planned to get the notices out," said campaign spokesman David Swanson. "We want Democrats in Delaware to know they'll be able to vote for Dennis Kucinich."

So far, former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, D-Ill., is the only prominent Democratic candidate not to have given notice about her ballot status. Election Commissioner Frank Calio said he expects notice on Braun soon.

"I think we all want the voters to be able to chose among the whole field of candidates," Calio said. >>

SO YES!! DENNIS KUCINICH DEFINITELY QUALIFIES!!!

17. THE DARK HORSE COMETH -- great slogan, twilight,

and I WILL be stealing it! :7

"I see Dennis Kucinich as a shorter Abraham Lincoln, elected as a member of the House directly to the Presidency, and becoming, with his passionate no-nonsense, visionary belief in the future of mankind, yet another savior of our nation: Washington, Lincoln, FDR, Kucinich!"
