I am calling Sheila's office after 9am to have her correct the numbers, there were over 500 people at the press release at the Capitol and then at the Senate Health Committee hearing yesterday. The press release room only holds dozens, and there were hundreds packed in the hallway. The hearing was also televised to a packed hallway on the 4th floor with another 100 watching in the sixth floor cafeteria.
There were so many wanting to speak in support that speakers were limited to a few minutes each. I got brave enough to speak when they announced there was only time to state your name, where you were from, who you represented and what your position was. I was second to last and said I was there on behalf of the 2,000 Californians that die annually from lack of affordable health care including my brother (45) who died earlier this month and my boyfriend's brother (44) who passed away unexpectedly last month.
If you live in California, please go to

If you support this find your local group, sign the online petition, contact your legislator, volunteer and/or donate money to this grass roots effort to pass the bill that already was passed by both houses and then vetoed by Schwarzenegger. 365 cities are holding rallies and then a large rally will be held in Sacramento on August 19th.
The sac bee doesn't have a story from the press release yet, but I did find this
