Who is Sam Fox and why is he being considered for an ambassadorship?
Fox wasn't just a donor to the Swift Liars, he was deeply invested in Bush and connected to his circle of cronyism, deceit and smear.

Sam Fox is another Ranger father of two Ranger sons. The Fox family's Harbour Group specializes in takeovers of manufacturing companies and has major investments in China. Sam Fox ironically told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he got involved in politics in the 1980s out of concern over the huge federal deficit. He was among 22 wealthy business leaders whom the president, who calls this donor "Foxie," invited to a 2001 lunch to discuss tax cuts for the rich.

The Pickens family of Dallas--which recently squabbled over its oil inheritance--had two members who raised more than $100,000 for Bush's campaigns. Three other family members took the 2000 Pioneer pledge but failed to reach their $100,000 target (John T., Michael K. and William C. Pickens). A T. Boone Pickens spokesperson says that he is not related to this Pickens family.

Fox told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he got involved in politics in the 1980s out of concern over the huge federal deficit, which the Bush administration itself predicted would exceed half a trillion dollars in 2004. Fox chairs the national Republican Jewish Coalition. He and Pioneer coalition members Ned Siegel and Fred Zeidman accompanied House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on his 2003 trip to Israel. Harbour Group companies received $3.3 million in federal contracts in fiscal 2002. Sam Fox’s sons Jeffrey Fox and Gregory Fox are Bush Pioneers and Harbour executives.

Brother Gregory Fox also is a Bush Pioneer and Harbour executive. Harbour Group companies received $3.3 million in federal contracts in fiscal 2002.

What Did They Get?

Lots of links to coverage of Kerry's grilling of Swift Liar supporter and Bush Ranger Sam Fox. The hearing also exposed how unqualified Fox is for the ambassador's position---Kerry asked him about Belgium and Fox waffled.

1. He's also a bold faced liar who shouldn't be confirmed.

And Kerry exposed that yesterday boxing him in a corner about the SBVT contribution he made, and whether the truth is important or not.

We don't need liars as ambassadors!!

2. Here is a link to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

There are 11 Democrats and 10 Republican Senators on the Committee. This is likely the best place to stop him.

As Obama said the SBVT perpetrated an enormous fraud on America. Although there were small donors, a huge proportion of the money behind these lies came from a small number of VERY rich people. This ambassadorship is very likely reward for the money he has given to Republicans. One way to make people think twice from giving money that they know will do things they themselves findwrong - is to show that doing so could deprive them of something they want (ambassadorships) and subject them to having to answer to what they did.

While I suspect that Fox may be mildly troubled by yesterday's hearing - especially because it is obvious that Senator Kerry is an extremely decent man, who did not deserve to have had his service and sacrifice used against him. That Fox's kids were sitting there does mean that he has paid some price. How does he answer their questions - the lame answers he gave Kerry won't suffice.

However, if he gets the ambassadorship, it sends the wrong message to other would be donators to future smear campaigns - and to Fox's own kids.

3. Anyone know why Claire Mcaskille spoke out FOR Fox? That was very disappointing
for me, especially as I sent money to her campaign at Kerry's request in 2006.

She must be well aware what a Bush crony he is.

9. Claire is disappointing a lot of voters in my area of MO.
Edited on Wed Feb-28-07 01:52 PM by Kerry2008
She isn't the kind of voice we were promised in the election. She's better then Senator Talent was, but we expect more. And she isn't delivering like she should. I've met Claire several times, and she is a great lady. But what about Fox makes her trust him? Certainly not the lies he told when Senator Kerry confronted him, and how he squirmed like the worm he is!!

5. He's also chairman of the Republican Jewish Coalition...
...a group whose purpose is to convince wealthy Jews they really belong in the Republican Party.

Cliff May of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies is a vice-chairman, but it's not really a Neocon group -- just a bunch of rich (and seemingly mainly southern) Republicans.

13. Democrats probably won't fight over this political payoff
I really wish they would just to spite the asshole for contributing the the Swift Liars. But the fact is that giving away ambassadorships for political contributions is standard procedure. Additionally, the public could care less whether the Ambassador to Belgium is qualified or not.

Anyone who votes for this lying POS, who is supremely unqualified, is an idiot!

But it seems like you can't get 51 votes for anything these days.
