Dear Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid ....... an open letter from a fan ......
..... well .... maybe 'fan' is too strong a word these days, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Dear Speaker Pelosi and Leader Reid,

Hi! I'm Stinky. I hope you remember me. I was the one who was cheering for you both as you were each carried to power on the Democratic wave this past November.

I was the one who stood up for you when you said 'impeachment was off the table' thinking that maybe it was a gambit to say it that way. You know. A head fake. Break left, pass right.

I was the one who stood up for you when you started talking about funding the troops but not the surge, or whatever the hell it was you were talking about. You know. That plan you devised to force the insane man in the White House to get with the program more than two thirds of the country wants.

I was the one who held faith with you when others started to call you out for inaction. I like to think of myself as reasonable. I like to think of myself as loyal. I like to think of myself as patient. I like to think myself as one who is willing to let the elected officals work out the details.

I do NOT like to think of myself as a patsy.

But I'm starting to.

Let me be real clear with today's question: What the HELL are you two thinking with respect to this stupid war?

Do you think you might suffer some (completely false) bad press if you defund? Do you worry what Rush might call you if you push back against the nitwit president? Here's a little clue. two thirds of this country wants out of Iraq and they want out now.

They don't want non binding resolutions. They don't want empty rhetoric about who is more patriotic. They don't want you to make nice with the lunatic who's calling the shots. They want you to stop him in his tracks.

And they want you to do it now.

And so do I.

I'm losing faith in you, Leader Reid. I am becoming increasingly untrusting of you, Speaker Pelosi.

Look, I'm STILL on your side. I really am. It won't take much to get me back to 100% for you. But ya gotta meet me (and two thirds of the country) at least half way.

Please Leader Reid and Speaker Pelosi, give me reason to cheer for you.

Your supporter, the (formerly) fawning,
Stinky

3. I'm in complete agreement.
The press is making the Democrats out to be weak because they AREN'T doing anything to stop the GOP/Bush/war in Iraq. And make no mistake: the three are ONE AND THE SAME!

So, the Dems might as well weather the bad press and actually GET SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT. I'm sick of posturing. The Dems will lose all they gained in 2006 when voters go to the polls in 2008 if something doesn't happen quick.

Get the lead out!

6. Good letter.... my question is why has Dem leadership bought into the GOP lie?
First, Dem leadership staunchly declared: We are not in any way talking about defunding troops that are already fighting in Iraq. We are looking at denying Bush funds for an escalation of troops.

Then the GOP leadership predictably lied and said Dems want to cut off funding for troops who are already on the ground in Iraq.

Now, Dems say they can't go forward because they don't want to cut off funding for troops who are already in Iraq, when they never proposed that in the first place.

Indeed, what the hell is going on.

8. I agree Stinky
No more excuses. That's all I have heard for six years...friggin' excuses.

"It's a strategy....we'll have 'em when we want 'em"

"drip, drip"

"we have to keep our powder dry"

"we'll make the moderate voters mad"

"they are justing voting what their red state constituents want them to"

"if we fight them, the Repukes will use it against us and make us look unpatriotic"

We have the power in the House at least, and if we cannot win with our votes, then at least have a vote so we the People can decide who qualifies for their job next time. Big hint: Congress is no longer a place for risk-averse Democrats.

9. Impeach now -- if not for your oath, than to escape a serious primary challenge. (nt)
