Some questions for conservative Global Warming Doubting Thomases out there
This was part of my original post at freakindiscussion, a freeper blog in Asheville ( http://disc.server.com/discussion.cgi?id=178984 )that I recently posted to in response to their Gore bashing over An Inconvenient Truth before they degenerated it into a total flame war..

So called "conservatives" will not be able to answer them:

For all of you conservatives who still don't believe in global warming, I have some questions I'd like to ask you:

1) Please explain to me, even if you don't accept global warming, why is it OK to be wasteful of your own money and resources?

What's so "conservative" about that?

After all shouldn't conservatives "conserve"?

2) How is it "in your own rational self-interest" to be wasteful if you are an Ayn Rand-esque CATO Institute loving Libertarian?

It has for centuries been an American proverb - "waste not want not" and Benjamin Franklin was famous for his saying that "a penny saved is a penny earned."

If I told you I could save you $30 in energy costs by replacing a single incandenscent bulb in your house with an equivalent fluorescent bulb and another $10 in replacement bulb costs, why would you intentionally throw away $40?

Depending on your particular house this could amount to hundreds of dollars a year.

3) How is it patriotic to unnecessarily waste energy that we must obtain at great cost of national blood and treasure in the Middle East from countries that don't particularly like us?

How is it patriotic to waste important materials in "a time of war" if you believe that this is indeed a time of war as the President claims?

In World War II, we rationed gas and food, we car pooled, and we recycled everything. A famous war poster of that time said it well "If you're riding alone, you're riding with Hitler".
http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/powers_of_persuasion/use_it_up/images_html/ride_with_hitler.html

Why is it that we feel no need to recycle or conserve anything in THIS war?

4) Finally, how is it "Christian" to be bad stewards (Matthew 25:14-25:30) of God's creation (Genesis 1:1-1:26) through waste, pollution, and extravagant consumption if you believe that God created this Earth? Remember that to those to whom much has been given, much will be expected. (Luke 12:48)

6. Ultimately, modern conservatism is about ENTITLEMENT.
They feel ENTITLED to do whatever they please and the consequences be damned because they bend the facts and reality to meet their preconceived ideological theories. We see it in Iraq, we saw it with the Presidential Daily Brief prior to 9/11, we saw it with Katrina when they ignored the Hurricane Pam exercise and failed to repair the levies and we're seeing it with global warming.

They will do whatever they please just like the captain of the Titanic charging through the icefield at full speed just before it sank.

It's time to relieve the wreckless captain of his command and steer the ship of state away from the icefield.

12. When in doubt, they always fall back on their training
Clinton's bl*wj*b used to be their only argument. Now they depend on shallow, empty Gore criticisms.

Hoo boy.

They're REALLY going to have to do better than this if they have a hope in Hell of winning in '08.

11. The funny thing is...
...that only in the US is the 'conservative' political party not environmentally conservative! Take the German conservative party for example. One of the major planks of their parties platform is environmental conservatism.

Personally, I blame it on the Reagan years. He had James Watt as the head of the Department of the Interior. This is when I believe the Republican party truly started its environmental decline. Watt was a very religious man who firmly believed that the end-times were right around the corner. Why bother saving the environment for the left-behinders? :puke:

13. James Watt. Yes. Exactly.
That is the true reason why the current GOP is so vehemently anti-environment.

Watt incorrectly labeled environmentalism as "anti-business, therefore un-American"

Ever since, that meme has stuck.

Face it, conservatives, he was a freak. He banned The Beach Boys from performing in 1983 because they drew "an undesirable element." Teh freakin' BEACH BOYS.

When asked whether he believed that natural resources should be preserved for future generations, he replied,

"I do not know how many future generations we can count on before the Lord returns, whatever it is we have to manage with a skill to leave the resources needed for future generations."

Watt was eventually indicted on 18 counts of felony perjury and obstruction of justice.

He served 5 years of probation and a fine.

"I never use the words Democrats and Republicans. It's liberals and Americans." -- James G. Watt, 1982
