At conservatives' conference, little love is expressed for GOP
Posted by 133724 on Sat Mar-03-07 04:47 AM

WASHINGTON -- Leading conservatives yesterday attacked the Republican party as big-government, free-spending coddlers of illegal immigrants and said the country's conservatives should withhold support from the GOP's current slate of presidential nominees to force them to the right.

"I feel very angry and betrayed" by the GOP, some of whose elected officials have backed a "guest worker" immigration plan, abortion rights, and tax increases, said Richard Viguerie , chairman of Conservative-HQ.com . "We should withhold support from all major Republican candidates today. Not one of them deserves our support today," he told a ballroom full of activists at the Conservative Political Action Conference's annual meeting yesterday.

Shame on you Ann Coulter

Friday afternoon, Republican mouthpiece Ann Coulter brought hate-speech politics to a new low.

This video shows Coulter addressing the American Conservative Union's Political Action Conference, March, 2, 2007 in Washington, D.C.

We must show that inflaming prejudice to attack progressive leaders will only backfire...

Ann Coulter calls John Edwards a "Faggot"
Posted by nodehopper on Fri Mar-02-07 07:20 PM

At the Conservative Political Action Conference today, which was attended by 2008 Republican Presidential candidates Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Tom Tancredo (R-CO), Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), former Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) as well as Vice President Dick Cheney, Ann Coulter referred to Senator John Edwards as a "faggot".

Ann_coulter_2After being introduced by Romney, who said "I am happy to hear that after you hear from me, you will hear from Ann Coulter. That is a good thing. Oh yeah!", Coulter took the stage and said:

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word ‘faggot,’ so I — so kind of an impasse, can’t really talk about Edwards." (video http://thinkprogress.org/2007/03/02/coulter-edwards /)

Ann Coulter's Bodyguards Harrass Conservative
Lydia Cornell

Urgent CPAC report:

The MSM, Media Matters, Wonkette and Olbermann -- and whoever else you know -- needs to know about this: Just a few hours ago, my friend Dan Borchers (conservative Christian who is writing a book about Ann Coulter's "extermination speak") was bodily wrestled out of CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) by 4 of Ann Coulter's bodyguards,
(two claimed they were CPAC security.) They staged the whole thing, followed him with a camera, cut his hand, tried to pry his name tag and credentials off from his neck, physically WRESTLED him out of the hotel, and shoved him.

His crime: asking a question of another author (Mark Smith) about Ann Coulter, and about the Paula Jones case. Borchers had spent money, bought tickets, took time off work and traveled from Maryland as he does every year, to be at CPAC. He is a lifelong Republican, a conservative military veteran, whose only crime is being morally offended by the way conservatism has been ruined by people like Coulter who indulge in hate speak. He believes it is his moral obligation to bring attention to this, and that "evil triumphs when good men do nothing."

Borchers is the most mild-mannered, humble Christian. His crime? He is guilty of being critical of the way Ann Coulter has "mainstreamed extremism" and has written articles about her. He accused her of plagiarizing her early books, and at the CPAC conference two years ago, he tried to distribute press kits calling for Coulter to stop her hate speak.

Ann Coulter's Republic Party: Dean Demands GOP Candidates Denounce 'Faggot' Remark

Posted by Ninja Jordan on Sat Mar-03-07 01:49 AM

Democratic Party boss Howard Dean demanded that Republican presidential candidates denounce conservative columnist Ann Coulter after she referred to Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ during a speech Friday at a national conservative gathering.

Coulter, who was addressing the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, D.C., said:

"I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, but it turns out you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot,' so I - so kind of an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards."

Members of the audience seemed startled, then many clapped, and she proceeded to open the floor to questions, reported EditorandPublisher.com

In the session preceding Romney, Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Tex.) said of Cindy Sheehan, whose son died in Iraq: "She's an idiot."

...In the session after Romney, Ann Coulter used an anti-gay slur to describe John Edwards (the line drew applause) and asked: "Did Al Gore actually swallow Michael Moore?"

...When a questioner asked Coulter why she praises marriage but broke off so many engagements, she responded by calling the questioner ugly.

...Inhofe repeated his view that man-made global warming is "the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," and he quarreled with a Bush administration proposal to list polar bears as a threatened species. "They're overpopulated," he declared. "Don't worry about it: The polar bear is fine." His staff handed out supporting documentation, including the claim that "MARS HAS GLOBAL WARMING DESPITE ABSENCE OF SUVs."

My God -- Republicans are PATHETIC.

This review of their little gathering today is incredible- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/20...

Coulter reference to Edwards as "faggot" gives rise to questions for media

In a March 2 speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), right-wing pundit Ann Coulter said she "can't really talk about" Democratic presidential candidate and former Sen. John Edwards (NC) because "you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'faggot.' " The CPAC audience applauded her comment. Coulter's comments, which aired on CSPAN, were also documented by the weblog Think Progress. It was not the first time Coulter has smeared a prominent Democrat with a homophobic epithet, and it is not the first time that Coulter has ridiculed Edwards. Will the media call on Republican presidential hopefuls attending the CPAC conference to denounce her smear?

From Coulter's March 2 speech:

COULTER: Oh, and I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards. But it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word "faggot," so I'm -- so I'm kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards. So I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions.

As Media Matters for America documented, Coulter called former Vice President Al Gore a "total fag" on the July 27 edition of MSNBC's Hardball, claiming immediately that the comment was "a joke." At the end of the interview, host Chris Matthews said: "Thanks for coming on. And a smart lady. Her book's called Godless. Sometimes being smart isn't enough for a civil discourse. We'd love to have her back."

Coulter previously ridiculed Edwards in a 2003 column for frequently talking about the death of his 16-year-old son, Wade:

1. Lies+Truth=Politics
She plays to her base and (after a pause/gasp) gets laughter
and applause. John Kerry acknowledges Mary Cheney's
orientation and is criticized. Lies in politics seem to be
received well, the truth is less welcome.

4. desperate
Coulter must really be hurting for attention ;

Their day is over and they know it. Weeks ago, I heard a reporter being interviewed about how tough it is to cover bush. He's just not relevant anymore and they're not interested in what he says or does. It's not just that he's a lame duck, it's that they're sick of him and what he represents.

Same with conservatism. It's proven to be a loser philosophy and nobody wants to hear from or about these people anymore. Thus, as you say, she's ramping "up her idiocy to new levels."

Cher

5. Sounds like desperation's in the air among....
... 'movement conservatives'. They may sense that '08 is a DEM year. No clear front runner on their side. One contender is 72 y.o. with much baggage. His chief competitor is thrice married and pro-gay rights, pro-abortion rights. The far righters... except perhaps for Romney are pretty obscure. Romney's a flipflopper .

No one seems to agree about anything... 'cept they are all pro war. Not a great idea these days, one senses , in terms of the mood of the electorate.

Hence the shrill tone of the CPAC Convention. Sounds like they've evolved from scapegoating gays... accusing the DEM opposition of being soft on 'family' (ahem) issues, a tried and true tactic in the past... to accusing the entire opposition of actually being gay itself.

Will the general public see thru it? Depends on what their TEE-vee tells em.

14. Really? She's a man? I would love to learn how you know this.
Even if she was born male (which she wasn't), she would still be a woman if she identified as female.

A transgendered woman is a woman. Not a man.

..she certainly has a limited vocabulary.

Either someone get that woman (not going to go there, thank you) a thesaurus, or explain to her that this attention-getting behavior is more appropriate to that of a three-year old who has learned how to say "PENIS!"
Frequently.
In public.
Because it embarrasses her parents and thereby brings her attention.

According to various documentation, she is anywhere between 38 and 40.
It's really time to start behaving like a grownup. :eyes:
