...Kinda-Sleeza Rice...

Will a blood clot force Cheney to step down?
06.03.07

Uncertain future: Dick Cheney
Dick Cheney has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, leading to speculation he will be forced to resign as U.S. Vice-President.

The 66-year-old has a history of major health problems, including four heart attacks, and has undergone quadruple-bypass surgery.

He is a driving force in both the war in Iraq and the 'war on terror' and his resignation would be a huge loss to George Bush.

The vice-president is the leader of Washington's neo-conservatives and is believed to be a dominant influence on Mr Bush's military and foreign policies.

He is also believed to be the president's closest political friend.

There has been widespread speculation that if Mr Cheney is unable to complete his term in office through ill health he will be replaced by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, another personal friend of Mr Bush.

1. Another theory...
This is the payoff to McCain so that he can run as an incumbent in '08.

17. Very possible
I mentioned in my first post on DU that Cheney's blood clot comes at a very convenient time. He could resign for 'health reasons' and nobody bat an eyelash, while the Bush family rewards McCain with Air Force Two, a nice campaign addition. Cheney has lost his influence in foreign policy and is on the outs with Bush and the WH (if you listen to the insiders). I don't think this is a far-fetched scenario at all.

18. Welcome to DU!
The blood clot was predictable after his recent trip. Sort of a MIHOP. Yes, quite convenient.

2. Backed into a corner, which is where the GOP is headed, anything is possible.
First woman VP. First black VP.

I wouldn't be surprised a bit.

15. You're right
Condi screwed up being NSA advisor and then was promoted to Sec of State. She's so far messed up being Sec of State, she may be "promoted" to the Vice Presidency. Screw up and get promoted, That's par for the course for this regime.

3. my top five
Jebedijah Bush - now that he is out of Fla, he doesn't face the horrors he left there.
Richard Perle - He and cheney could be twins on policy issues
Paul Wolfowitz - not just another pretty face. His international "experience" would serve Bush's plans
Addington - Cheney's brain would fit as well as Perle or J-Bush.
Condi Rice - the least likely. She is too weak, to ineffectual, too smarmy. While easily controlled by the real powers, she does much better as a figurehead, not a real powerouse.

4. I hate to point out the 800 lb. gorilla in the room, but...
do you think that the reich-wing will accept Condi? I dont mean to start a flamewar, but will your average truck drivin redneck male actually vote for a female, must less one of African American ethnicity?

If not Condi, might there be another possibility? Is there a candidate or other Repuke that would be ready to step in to VP and then transition into presidential material? I have an unfounded belief that shrub and dad would like to send Jeb the presidential baton. Last time he was asked, Jeb said that he "did not have any plans to run for president". We should know by now that means "yes, just not yet".

9. It won't be Condi...and don't forget...any replacement has to be approved by congress...
...now assuming that the Democratic congress folk have bigger balls than we give them credit for, the "annointed one" would have to go through them...

McCain is the only one that might get the nod...all of that 'old boy' 'buddy system' crap would come into play...

Nope, Smirky McCokespoon will take whomever Darth Cheney tells him to...

12. absolutely. Her sex precludes her from being chosen.
not to mention that she is unbelievably inept and incompetent, even by this administration's abysmally low standards.

14. It might be, but don't expect her to run for President.
He'd pick her BECAUSE she wouldn't run. She'd give her endorsement to the Monkey's choice.

11. No they will not. I have a better chance of growing wings than Condi does as..
..a VP nominee or a candidate...

She is nothing more than a token, always has been, always will be...
