(03-06) 17:02 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- Bob Hattoy, president of California's Fish
and Game Commission, an official in the Clinton administration and a prominent
and outspoken AIDS activist, died early Sunday at UC Davis Medical Center in
Sacramento. He was 57.
Mr. Hattoy, who was elected president of the state Fish and Game Commission
last month, first gained national prominence when he addressed delegates at
the 1992 Democratic National Convention as a gay man with AIDS.
He also is credited, in his role as a Sierra Club official, with helping to preserve
the California coastline from offshore drilling.
