Edwards locks up unanimous support from North Carolina's Democratic congressional delegation
North Carolina's Congressional Democrats Back Edwards
By Mike Baker--Associated Press
Thursday, March 8, 2007

----
RALEIGH, N.C.--Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards has locked up unanimous support from all seven Democrats in his home state's congressional delegation, his campaign said Thursday.

"We intend for this to send a very positive signal," said Rep. David Price in an interview. "We really had no hesitancy as 'the North Carolina seven' to support him in concert. We know him, we respect him and we're excited by his campaign."

Edwards served one term representing the state in the U.S. Senate before his first run for the White House in 2004.

"This is a very strong statement of support for Sen. Edwards," said Edwards spokeswoman Kate Bedingfield.
(...)
"Sen. Edwards has been enjoying a massive amount of support across the country as he's traveled," Bedingfield said. "Folks in North Carolina elected him to serve in the Senate and we expect they'll support his bid for president as well."

Along with Price, Edwards got an endorsement from Reps. G.K. Butterfield, Bob Etheridge, Mike McIntyre, Heath Shuler, Mel Watt and Brad Miller.

"I am proud to have the support of these outstanding members of Congress," Edwards said in a statement. "I value both their ideas and their friendship and thank them for their support."

1. An impressive gain, likely the work of some sure-footed strategists
in both the state delegation and the Edwards team.

And as long as we're on the subject of North Carolina, may I just speak disparagingly of Elizabeth Dole? You wonderful North Carolina Democrats out there -- do what you can to send this woman out of the Senate and back to her mint julip socials. I won't miss her one bit.

and here again you make good sense. I am EXTREMELY comfortable with your description of McHenry.

6. Got it. But I appreciate first the initial description, and now the
additional "pissant."

You've got the boy nailed.

7. Hey what can I say
I call them like I see them and I see McHenry as a annoying pissant who does nothing more then cause trouble in Congress.

I feel sorry for everyone from NC that is represented by that goof. My heart goes out to you.

10. I note Heath Shuler's support for John Edwards. It's a fine thing to
have him in Congress to begin with. And as a Democrat no less.

The North Carolina delegation are hanging together on this one. For me, it's good to see this level of unity.

I want North Carolina as blue as blue gets in 2008.

11. I would love to see Edwards to win his homestate
It's was bad enough Gore couldn't win his home southern state in 2000, it would be terrible that it goes the same for Edwards. Besides getting the support of the entire NC Dem delegation i'll give you one endorsement higher...The Governor. What could be more better the Mike Easley, a Democrat and probally the most politican in NC comes out tommorrow in support of Edwards.

It dosen't get no better than that.

12. True. I wish Gore had carried Tennessee (and West Virginia, too).
North Carolina is doable for us. I think if Edwards were to be at the top of the ticket, and with the support of the Governor and the Congressional delegation, that Democrats could add North Carolina to the blue column in 08.

That would be just fine with me.

16. With Edwards or Clark on top of our ticket and Guiliani or Romney on theirs, we may sweep the South

17. That's the kind of talk that blooms whole gardens at once, Czolgosz.
Yes. I agree, but am afraid to say it out loud. It's been such a long time since I've seen much blue south of the Mason Dixon line on a political map.

15. This is great news
Brad Miller blogs at DK pretty often and Shuler has his own blog these days.

Miller is considering a run against that windbag Dole.

I hope in 2008 that Larry Kissell makes it for NC-8. He was only 330 votes short last time.
