George McGovern to Cheney: Resign

George McGovern has a word for Vice President Dick Cheney: "Resign."

Responding to Tuesday's conviction of Cheney's former chief-of-staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, on charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to the FBI -- after a trial that revealed Cheney's intimate involvement with a scheme to discredit a critic of the administration's war policies -- the former congressman, senator and presidential candidate said it was time for the vice president to go.

"What we have learned about how he has conducted himself leaves no doubt that he should be out of office," McGovern says of Cheney. "If he had any respect for the Constitution or the country, he would resign."

And if Cheney does not take the liberal Democrat's counsel?

"There is no question in my mind that Cheney has committed impeachable offenses. So has George Bush," argues McGovern. "Bush is much more impeachable than Richard Nixon was. That's been clear for some time. There does not seem to be much sentiment for impeachment in Congress now, but around the country people are fed up with this administration." .....(more)

1. I agree with McGovern.....
...and hopefully out of the Waxman hearings, there will be enough that comes out to make it abundantly clear that both Bush and Cheney NEED to go and if they don't resign, that impeachment is the ONLY alternative.

I have been looking at this and thinking about all of this for a long time ... and the more I look and the more I think and examine it, Cheney was involved in securing the fake Niger documents. IMO, if Waxman gets his teeth into that issue and digs ~~ the House of Bush/Cheney will come crashing down.

I just have that gut feeling ~~ and I hope I am correct ~~ that the forged Niger documents are the key to getting those bastards out of the WH...and if they do not go voluntarily, the key to getting both of them impeached.

2. I have a strong feeling that Cheyney will resign before
his term is over. Not necessarily because he is forced out but because it would be politically good for the Repub party for him to do so. Citing ill health or some other reason, he would step down to allow Bush to name a successor, who might be McCain, Romney, or even Giuliani, someone who would become the instant front runner for the Repub nomination for President next year. The fun of being Vice president probably has run out for Cheyney, who is increasingly under attack for his actions in the Plame case. Retirement probably sounds pretty good to him right now, and he could write his memoirs giving his side of the story.
