What will it take to get back in power...
if we lose the white house and congress?

I mean, the GOP has dragged the country through countless scandals, wars and economic exploitation...what will it take to get them voting for democrats again?

We could just become GOP-lite but that apparently hasn't work...we could learn to debate, but intellectual dishonesty has become a national pasttime.

Something tells me that if the American people are willing to give the GOP a benefit of the doubt for all they done now, that it will take something really bad. What do you think will be bad enough?

1. Why do you say that? We won congress and 28 Governorships.

2. What if it ends in 2008?
What if voters go back to their 2004 habits in just one cycle?

4. I'm doing my best not to worry about it now.
My gut instinct when we won in November was that in two years, we Dems will have another night of celebration. I doubt we'll lose the House; lots of new Democrats elected and voters shouldn't have much reason to reject them after only 2 years (though that's what happened to my last Congressman, fortunately). The Senate's gonna be closer, we've only a razor thin majority there. But we'll be defending fewer seats than the R's and they look to be slightly more vulnerable. I anticipate a net change of a few pickups for us. The White House-well that's hard to know. People hate Bush right now, and a year and a half from now they're still going to hate him. That alone may not be enough, but when you look at some of the jackasses in the GOP field, it looks like we're in pretty good position to take it back. Plus, it's rare that one party controls the White House for more than 8 consecutive years.

Wouldn't that be something? Going from House Minority, Senate Minority, and out of the White House in 2006 to House Majority, Senate Majority, and in the White House in 2008? I think we can do it.

5. I know....
its just there has been a lot of bickering amoungst dems of late and McConnel has been fillibustering all of our ideas....and what if the surge does work? Violence seems to be at least less reported in Baghdad in the last few weeks... I am a little bit of a worry wort, I know. But I want to make sure our asses are held tight and we know what to jump on next.

6. Well We all know were going to lose Louisana in the Senate
Thats a fact but we have very good chances to pick up Minnesota, New Hampshire and Oregon in the Senate. As for the House we have a very good chance to lost alteast two seats in Georgia, Jim Marshall and John Barrow survived by razor thin margins what do you think it's will be line in a presidental year?

I think we can still pull off a victory, if the machines aren't hacked or anything. Worry more about election fraud then races.

8. I'm sorry Weasel, I totally forgot about Colorado
With how Colorado is trending politically we have a excellent chance to pick up that seat.

12. I wouldn't say that. I think the RW will churn up more slime in 2008.
But I think the American people will see right through it this time. After the lows they want in 2004 to beat up John Kerry, I'm sure no candidate in 2008 will let them get an inch because they'll take a mile. We have to stand strong, and stand up to the lies. And we have to dominate the debate. We can't JUST be the party that says we're not Republicans, we have to offer something. If we do, we win!!

16. That's what we thought in 2004
But I think the American people will see right through it this time.

I look at it the other way. If the people didn't wake up after 2000 and 2002, there is no reason to believe that they will suddenly come to their senses now. It's now been proven beyond any doubt that Kerry was robbed f OH, and thus of the WH in 2004, and nothing is being done about it, or will be done about it.

Next year's election will again be handed to the GOP nominee by the media and crooked election officials and the courts, and we're powerless to do anything about it.

15. Rant on the internets?
That's what many will do and, amazingly, will still continue to expect to achieve progress in this way.

I'm in the trenches working to make sure this disaster is avoided. If it is not avoided it is because not enough people were out here, in reality, working to make it happen. If this comes to pass then shame on us. There is no reason not to know how the Rethugs will come at us on every level. We've had good reason to know for years.

Caught unprepared and flat-footed (again) will be to our eternal shame and if that happens I'm not sure what I will do. You'll have to ask me at that point. What you choose to do is up to you.

17. Oh, please
exactly how are we supposed to counteract the slime/crime/propaganda machine the ultra-right wing has in place. Gore won in 2000, Kerry won in 2004, and yet the Worst President Ever has been living in the WH for 6 years. The protestors to the invasion numbered in the millions, yet we've been dying and killing for 4 years, and are escalating as I write this. No amount of "trench work" is going to stop the 4th Reich.

18. I gather you won't be joining us?

The R's are organized on the ground like no other. This is what we must do too. Much progress has been made (50 state strategy anyone?) but we've got a looooooong way to go. All hands on deck!

Well except you I guess.

19. There were lots of German resistence in the trenches in the 1930's too
And they ended up underneath the rubble in Berlin. But Hitler was too shrewd - he'd busted all the unions, so that a general strike was nearly impossible, since jobs were scarce and poorly paid, and had complete control over the media. Stop me when this starts to sound familiar.

20. Well then, let's surrender and give up
It always cracks me up to see keyborad commandoes argue against real world political involvment.

Good thing no one convinced the revolutionaries in the American colonies of how futile their resistance would be.

Oy.

14. I was hoping that we could take care of it amongst ourselves
but it's looking bleak. The media and the courts are too stacked for us to get the country back. A general strike might do the trick, but it looks like We The People are too apathetic and/or brainwashed for that. Maybe if Smirk attacks Iran, the UN will start sanctions on the US and people will wake up. But IMO it looks like there will have to be a shooting war on our soil to overcome Fox News.
