Seymour Hersh - Bush redirecting lost $$$ to Al-Qaeda

Hersh: U.S. Funds Being Secretly Funneled To Violent Al Qaeda-Linked Groups
New Yorker article and CNN Interview

New Yorker columnist Sy Hersh says the “single most explosive” element of his latest article involves an effort by the Bush administration to stem the growth of Shiite influence in the Middle East (specifically the Iranian government and Hezbollah in Lebanon) by funding violent Sunni groups.

Hersh says the U.S. has been “pumping money, a great deal of money, without congressional authority, without any congressional oversight” for covert operations in the Middle East where it wants to “stop the Shiite spread or the Shiite influence.” Hersh says these funds have ended up in the hands of “three Sunni jihadist groups” who are “connected to al Qaeda” but “want to take on Hezbollah.”

Hersh summed up his scoop in stark terms: “We are simply in a situation where this president is really taking his notion of executive privilege to the absolute limit here, running covert operations, using money that was not authorized by Congress, supporting groups indirectly that are involved with the same people that did 9/11.”

12. Very true. Although it goes back farther than Iran Contra.
For some WWII was just the first battle.

16. Post WW2 - putting Shah back in power started this specific road to world chaos.
If only we had stopped it when it became clearer it needed stopping in the late 80s and 90s.

22. When? The Answer? Never? President Lips has provided us...
with the next Boogeyman, the next horrific threat to what's left of our freedom after it's been put thru the shredder of his Patriot Act. He's ponied up the next "Soviet Union". He's provided the American Government elite with their latest excuse for ever-increasing military expenditures at the expense of real domestic programs, for meddling in foreign affairs in a manner that always seems to benefit certain wealthy concerns while making things worse for a large part of the globe and for even more erosion of our Constitutional liberties.

And, you know what? The Dems are all for it! Oh sure, they'll take Bush out over some technicality, or at least cut him down a peg before he leaves office, but they will never expose the lie that is the War On Terror because it benefits them as much as it benefits the Repubs. Hell, have any of them ever called the War On Drugs out for the patented load of crap that it really is? Has any Democrat ever gone out onto the floor of Congress and the Senate and complained about the inhumanity of jailing hundreds of thousands of small-time dope peddlers, many of them barely adults, just so our Intelligence Agencies could have a convenient way of laundering and raising huge amounts of untraceable cash? Nope! I hate to burst any bubbles on this very informative board but if you really think the Democrats are any less corrupt than the Republicans then, brother, as the song sez, "You got another thing comin'."

a dimes worth of difference between the Democrats and the Republicans"? "The Dems are all for"... the erosion of our civil liberties and and increased military spending at the expense of domestic programs? :wtf:

I hope you're not serious about that. Do you actually think the Democrats would have invaded a sovereign country for no good reason and emptied the national treasury along the way in doing so? Do you think they would have taken that money and distributed it to loyal Democratic companies regardless of their qualification to handle their tasks - while all the time insisting on tax cuts for the richest 3% of our citizens and cutting domestic spending to the bone? And do you REALLY think the Democrats are as corrupt as the Republican party, the people who invented kickbacks and bribes?

If so, I think you may have stumbled upon this discussion board by mistake. Yes, there is corruption within the Democratic Party, but we're comparing apples and oranges here as far as the breadth and depth of that corruption. If you really see no difference between the parties then it may be time to sow your seeds of discontent elsewhere because we certainly don't want them to find purchase here.

Think about it.

33. How do you think we even came to KNOW about the CIA drugrunning operations?
Sen. John Kerry.

And Kerry and Maxine Waters tried like hell to make the public hear about it after Webb's report came out in 1996, but the Clinton administration controlled the press on that story and they got it knocked down.

You CANNOT blame the entire Dem party - you wouldn't know HALF of the information you can access right now about the BFEE if it hadn't been for Kerry's persistent work uncovering IranContra, BCCI and CIA drugrunning.

Granted, it is true that too many Democrats sided with BushInc over the years and chose to protect secrecy and privilege instead of helping Kerry on those fights to get information to the people.

10. The right wing Christian ministers have appointed B* as the Sun God
Edited on Wed Mar-21-07 01:03 PM by truedelphi
I always wondered how any population could have their leader assume the position of a deity.

But it has happened in America - and it confuses the hell out of me.

I was talking to my Boss's husband the other day. Right wing Christians - both Bush supporters.

He was saying he never thought that there was any reason in going to Iraq - this startled me.

But he said out of deference to the President (and his voice became hushed and reverent) that he had to support the war since we were there.

This startled me even more. Once you see the situation clearly - that there was no reason for this war - how can you support the war?? How can you support the President?

6. I am about at the *screw it* who cares point--
Well maybe not, but when is this shit going to end?

The man needs to freaking GO-- now it's been revealed OPENLY to the public that the SOB is funding Al Queda and yet there sits the mother F'r in the Whitehouse STILL?????

Where is the fucking outrage?

What in the name of God is it going to take to get the people in this country and Congress up off of their dead asses to revolt!?!?!

I have spent years researching and trying to inform people about these crooks,
as have hundreds of thousands of others and yet it just goes on...and on...and on and apparently there is no bottom to the cess pool and it seems that no one does anything about it!

To read the right winged nut sites it's all a freaking game and they'll do anything to win.

This bullshit is honestly very disheartening--bush is burying this country, he and Cheney and the rest of these crimninals NEED TO GO!

The pattern with Bush and Cheney is totally beyond an in your face "stop us before we kill again" psychosis -- it's beyond anything like that.
