Need research paper ideas!
I have to write a paper paralleling President Bush (the current) and President Carter.

Any thoughts? I can't seem to come up with any issues they both dealth with, or other ways to parallel their performance in office.

Thanks!

1. Well there's always how one claims to be a christian and one actually is

Or how one claims to have done things to protect our enviroment (Clear Skies, Clean Air Acts, etc) and one actually did - put a plan in place that had it been followed today the US would be energy dependent.

One is a total asshole and one is a sweetheart. Ok, I named my son Carter after him so I might be a bit biased...nah.

on edit: if you need info, I can always make a trip over to the Carter Library for you. I work in Atlanta and live outside the city, so it's not a problem. :)

2. Here's one
It was under Carter that the insane idea of destabilizing Afghanistan by arming and training the mujahadeen got started. Bush is currently doing the same thing with violent Sunni groups in Iraq to be a counter force to the Shiite militias.

9. That was my thought, too
the domestic energy stuff would be of particular interest, too, as Carter is the one who implemented the CAFE standards. Things might look a lot different today if Reagan hadn't rolled them back in the eightees to supposedly prevent a oil glut.

7. couldn't think of more diverse persons to compare
except that both were governors from the South before president.

Carter: peace, non-proliferation (actually his daughter Amy's word), normalization with Cuba, 55 mph, going from inches to metric. At least this were positive attempts to produce a better world, although not completely successful.

Bush: war, nuclear proliferation, hostilities against many foreign countries, little concern about fuel issues.

diplomacy vs bullying. Or use of language. Or concern for the environment (Carter turned the heat down in the White House during the energy crisis). Or definitions of compassion.

10. Compare & contrast sure, but paralleling?
I can't think of two more opposite men or administrations. Sadistic professor?
