Congress Needs to subpoena John Ashcroft
John Ashcroft was not a U. S. Attorney who was fired for political reasons but he may have been an Attorney General fired for political reasons.
That could be much worse!

It sounds like Ashcroft may have been unwilling to give his approval to certify certain aspects of the NSA Spy Program while he was still Attorney General. See:

Then, on MEET THE PRESS today, fired U.S. Attorney Iglesias told viewers that:

"I recall John Ashcroft sitting me in, in his office and saying "POLITICS HAS NO PART OF YOUR JOB AS A U.S. ATTORNEY".

We all know that John Ashcroft was indeed unpopular but there may have been other reasons why Bush replaced him.
